It's 4:56am and my upstairs neighbor is watching some kind of horror film. Mostly what I hear is the droning keyboard/synth parts of the soundtrack, which sound like something out of a Carach Angren song (I guess it's actually the other way around, but whatever).

Some interesting trivia about one of my favorite standards, "blue moon":

It was originally called "the bad in.every man"'and was shown in.the movie Manhattan Melodrama (Staring Clark Gable, William Powell, and Myrna Loy).  This version is song by Shirley Ross:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j3t0cBC6g5U

Right across the street from where I usually work is the theater that John Dillinger was gunned down while watching this movie.  Tourists always take pictures of the theater blocking me as I'm.trying to walk.

And I was lucky enough to find this:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kvEocQhMh1o

It's an even older version entitled "prayer" .  It was supposed to take place in.some movie where "Jean Harlow is shown as an innocent young girl saying - or rather singing- her prayers" about becoming an actress in Hollywood.  The lyrics to this version are some of the most charming lyrics I've ever heard.

I wish this version existed in.an.orchestrated form.  Maybe that can be a future project for me, though the version on YouTube is certainly very good.

An updated version of the Shirley Ross version of "The Bad In Every Man" from Manhattan Melodrama I accidentally stumbled across:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxYOi5bK90Y

It's by some band named The Attic band.

They add the first verse of "blue moon" at the end.  It suprisinlgy fits lyrically, I like it and the twist it gives the lyrics, but I'd rather not have it added it were it up to me, but it is a neat innovation nontheless.  Still a great rendition that adds an interesting innovative twist.

Early 80's nostalgia. Middle school days of adolescent fumblings and awakenings best left untold. But this song still stands the test of time. So good.  :)

Simon and Garfunkel- Scarborough Fair
Mumford and Sons- The Boxer (maybe it's heresy but I actually like this one a bit more than the S&F original)

And switching gears drastically...

Imagine Dragons- Counting Stars

Mike Posner- I Took a Pill in Ibiza (Seeb Remix) I keep coming back to this one. The paradox of a vapid club song about doing drugs that is really a lament on the emptiness of that life (much like Sia's Chandelier or Kendrick Lamar's Swimming Pools) from the guy who was previously known as only a vapid party boy himself is just really interesting to me. Does the video detract from it a little? Maybe. But I usually just play it another tab, anyway. Slight language warning.

But, that really only applies to the remix, I can't stand the foe Bob Dylan of the original lol.
