Various renditions of one of my favorite Christmas songs, "Down in Yon Forest":

"I love my Lord Jesus above anything."

Joan Baez:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEWf2esrLaA

Barbara Dickson:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfvEef_vAeA

The Voice Squad:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-wqg-9bJV0

Shirley Collins:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRQT7GGuVCE

Lyrics:

Down in yon forest there stands a hall:
The bells of Paradise I heard them ring:
It's covered all over with purple and pall
And I love my Lord Jesus above anything.

In that hall there stands a bed:
The bells of Paradise I heard them ring:
It's covered all over with scarlet so red:
And I love my Lord Jesus above anything.

At the bed-side there lies a stone:
The bells of Paradise I heard them ring:
Which the sweet Virgin Mary knelt upon:
And I love my Lord Jesus above anything.

Under that bed there runs a flood:
The bells of Paradise I heard them ring:
The one half runs water, the other runs blood:
And I love my Lord Jesus above anything.

At the bed's foot there grows a thorn:
The bells of Paradise I heard them ring:
Which ever blows blossom since he was born:
And I love my Lord Jesus above anything.

Over that bed the moon shines bright:
The bells of Paradise I heard them ring:
Denoting our Saviour was born this night:
And I love my Lord Jesus above anything.

About to be Nine Lessons and Carols from King's College...but until then I'm stuck with whatever Rumpole is  ;D
Wishing to grant pardon for ancient debts, he who cancels the debts of all people came himself and dwelt among those who were estranged from his divine grace; and tearing apart the record of sin, he hears from everyone: Alleluia.

Stunning. Thank you for this.

A little digging has brought to light more Orthodox-friendly gems.

The Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom
Russian Treasures

Beautiful too but I'm usually unable to listen to Orthodox chant outside of liturgical setting. Don't know if my ears are too accustomed to Western music or do I just associate it too strongly with the liturgy.
I just need to find out how to say it in Slavonic!

A bit more digging on YouTube alone netted me 18 albums of theirs. I consider them my New Year's music haul. ;D

If you cannot remember everything, instead of everything, I beg you, remember this without fail, that not to share our own wealth with the poor is theft from the poor and deprivation of their means of life; we do not possess our own wealth but theirs.  If we have this attitude, we will certainly offer our money; and by nourishing Christ in poverty here and laying up great profit hereafter, we will be able to attain the good things which are to come. - St. John Chrysostom

For whatever reason, tonight I've been listening on (mostly) Spotify to a bunch of bands I used to listen to c. 2000. Some of them I probably haven't listened since then, lol.

Faithbomb
Deliverance
Strongarm
Polarboy
Tourniquet
Keelhaul
Stretch Arm Strong
Underoath
Whitecross
POD
Betrayal
Stryper

I was so cool in college.

Apparently she passed away a year ago though, I guess I didn't look at the date on the news article and it was bumped for whatever reason.

“There is much suffering,
But the church is alive. "

'Evil isn't the real threat to the world. Stupid is just as destructive as evil, maybe more so, and it's a hell of a lot more common. What we really need is a crusade against stupid. That might actually make a difference.'~Harry Dresden

“Steel isn't strong, boy, flesh is stronger! That is strength, boy! That is power! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?  Contemplate this on the tree of woe.” - Elder Thulsa Doom of the Mountain of Power

Mencius said, “Instruction makes use of many techniques. When I do not deign to instruct someone, that too is a form of instruction.”

Come look at my lame blog

"Whether it’s the guillotine, the hangman’s noose, or reciprocal endeavors of militaristic horror, radical evil will never be recompensed with radical punishment. The only answer, the only remedy, and the only truly effective response to radical evil is radical love."

Ayla Nereo - Tightrope Walker

Actually, the entire album is absolutely charming.

^This again. And every time I listen, I get fixated on a different track. Today it's 'Ivory Tongue'.
