Sharon Knight - Song Of Wandering Aengus

Gosh, how obnoxious. Way to suck the soul out of a wonderful poem. Here's a proper rendition: http://youtu.be/UQUT6mS0eY8

I'll take so-called obnoxious over mawkish, thanks.

The fake, new agey "Celtic" schlock you exult in is the very embodiment of mawkish.
Quote
“A goose to hatch the Crystal Egg after an Eagle had half-hatched it! Aye, aye, to be sure, that’s right,” said the Old Woman of Beare. “And now you must go find out what happened to it. Go now, and when you come back I will give you your name.”
- from The King of Ireland's Son, by Padraic Colum

Your collection should have enough fake death growls to drown it all out.

The way you two snipe at one another like an old married couple, I'd say you have at least one decent collaboration in you. I'd like to see it lol.
Is that what they teach you at the temple volnutt-stein?

Actually, it's Volnutt-berg.

I watched Anna Netrebko La Traviata free on youtube on a big screen with surround sound.    Rolando Villazón was the tenor.  Great stuff.

Mongolian throat-singing goes Post Rock. I don't think I've ever heard this hipster crossover. Saw their gig yesterday and it was quite nice.

Hard to find even half an hour a day for a chapter over half-term, though. I expect to make better time from next week.

Have you ever read From Primitives to Zen, by Mircea Eliade? It has a great chapter on afterlife.

I just came around to purchasing the Cappella Romana Michaelides Liturgy recording.  It is wonderful!  Also, Benjamin Britten's 5 Canticles, some of my favorite pieces.

That's crazy, I like it.

Om - Meditation is the Practice of Death, these guys use a lot of Orthodox imagery but their songs are usually more esoteric. Their frontman, however, first played bass in metal band Sleep, whose first guitar player left his career to become a monk and founded Death to the World.

Walela - Cherokee Morning Song

This amazing group of the Coolidge sisters was a daily favorite of mine through my 30s.

Hope my tribal heritage is Cherokee as my great grandmother was likely to have chosen to marry a white person rather than having been forced to bear an unwanted child through the Trail of Tears.
