A WHOLE Wiki-page to that song!

Every big hit since chart creation (and several not so big ones) has a wiki page. They're not exactly hard to make. :)

I've been pretty good about not listening to secular music this Lent. However, the following is composed of the ear worms that have plagued me in my pop music starvation:

Weezer - Pinkerton album
Beck - Midnight Vultures album
David Bowie - Let's Dance album
"Funny," said Lancelot, "how the people who can't pray say that prayers are not answered, however much the people who can pray say they are."  TH White

Oh, no: I've succumbed to Hyperdoxy!

Outside of the original Brubeck version the Carmen Mcrae interpretation is my favorite of Take Five:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNWsr6N72yQ

5/4 rhythms are very catchy, I don't know why people don't use them more often.

also:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo4rn85Tr_I

Joe Henderson's Page One Album.  Joe Henderson is a great tenor sax player from Dayton Ohio.  This is a classic album that debuted the standard "Blue Bossa" (this is still my favorite version of it by far) and Henderson's composition "Out on the Night". Anyway, it's a solid album from start to finish and well worth listening to.

For the record the best of Toledo Jazz:

Art Tatum

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYcZGPLAnHA

and Jon Hendricks:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXwMgIlmoaM

not bad at all.  I actually had the privilege to have a Jazz appreciation class with Hendricks at the University of Toledo, unfortunately I was not able to appreciate the class or who he was or the class at the time.  As far as I know, the 94 year old still teaches there in his spare time.

First post-fast album-

Beck Midnite Vultures. Quite possibly the funkiest album ever recorded by a white man.

Lo boièr, crypto-Gnostic troubadour song. Just found this version, it's good but the singer probably doesn't know the language and he really abused the synths. This version, on the other hand, is an awesome acapella.

Van Halen: "Little Guitars"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6umKShwSVQA

Such a great song and such a great band (prior to the Sammy Hagar days at least.) I sort of grew out of Van Halen because some of their lyrics were just too slack and too profane for my tastes. But no denying they were an incredibly talented band. Before the Hagar days they rarely made a bad song. I partied hard to Van Halen back in the day, and I still like to crank it up now and then. I can't escape the 80's. I cut my teeth on this stuff. Not ashamed to say it. :)

Cabaret aesthetics clothing some of the funniest (and most biting) lyrics ever. This is going to play a lot, especially over the summer.

I think I like it more than Ochs's original, although that might just be because it seems more timely.

Some version of this song always pops into my head when I hear Hillary or one of her smug supporters speak.

I've been listening to quite a lot of Gorgoroth lately. Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt and Under the Sign of Hell to be specific. Weird since I thought that I got tired of BM long ago.

I haven't listened to them in a while, but I enjoyed them quite a bit. One of my favorite experiences in Beijing was seeing a Chinese black metal band called Wrath of Tyrant. They did a sublime cover of Gorgoroth's "Funeral Procession."

Gorgoroth - Satan-Prometheus

I've been listening to quite a lot of Gorgoroth lately. Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt and Under the Sign of Hell to be specific. Weird since I thought that I got tired of BM long ago.

I haven't listened to them in a while, but I enjoyed them quite a bit. One of my favorite experiences in Beijing was seeing a Chinese black metal band called Wrath of Tyrant. They did a sublime cover of Gorgoroth's "Funeral Procession."

Did they wore corpse paints and/or any other clicheous stuff? I wonder what Chinese authorities would have thought of that.

I tried to find that band from Spotify. Ended up listening to this instead:

Emperor - Wrath of the Tyrant: Witches Sabbath

Yes, they wore corpse-paint, 6-inch spikes, etc. It was quite hysterical. It was made funnier by the fact that the concert was a catch-all metal show (the Beijing metal scene is small but devoted and they stick to each other). So the band preceding them was some hair metal throwback, the band that followed was some kind of awful Limp Bizkit clone, etc. The Chinese authorities don't really care what you do as long as it isn't some kind of organized sedition.

As far as I know, they never recorded a full album. They had one song on a Chinese metal compilation which you probably can't find anywhere. I imagine the band members have moved on to other things since then. One Chinese black metal band that was actually quite good was Ritual Day, who had an album out which I think you can still find for download. It was very much in the vein of Dissection and other Swedish black/death bands.

Sharon Knight - Song Of Wandering Aengus

Gosh, how obnoxious. Way to suck the soul out of a wonderful poem. Here's a proper rendition: http://youtu.be/UQUT6mS0eY8

I'll take so-called obnoxious over mawkish, thanks.
