I'm listening to a podcast of Clark Carlton talking about how people should stop reading books on theology when they could do more productive--and less heresy-producing!--things like praying or gardening. Also, people should stop doing armchair theology and putting it out there for public use. Almost all people who write books are delusional if they think they are real theologians, and either way all they are doing is giving 3rd rate worldly commentary on what true theologians have already said. These people foolishly think they can figure spiritual things out! Ha! Hahahahahahaha!

Brb, I need to go order his multiple books, track down his journal articles, download his 78 podcasts on AFR, and see what else I can find of his on the internet.

Pepe Romero: "Concierto de Aranjuez"

The most beautiful piece of music ever written for the guitar. "Concierto de Aranjuez" touches on every emotion of the human heart, and no one plays it better than the great Pepe Romero. Duende!

The funny thing is, the piece was primarily popularized by Miles Davis (1961) and a few years later, by the Modern Jazz Quartet. I first heard it through the latter and purchased the Narcisco Yepes recording.

Indeed. Miles Davis used the second movement on his masterpiece, "Sketches of Spain." One of the best jazz albums ever recorded. I saw Miles perform at the Atlanta Jazz Fest in 1989. I snuck my way back stage and got to meet him right as he was exiting from the stage and getting into his limo. He was very gracious and kind. I'll never forget that experience. I also saw the MJQ the year before that. I didn't know they performed "Concierto de Aranjuez." I'll have to try to find that!

It's officially Christmas break from school, so the family's favourite Christmas albums have come out to play back to back:

The Christmas Attic

I've been trying to stay away from popular secular music. I've grown fond of the smooth jazz and classical stations. Lately they've been playing jazz and blues Christmas songs, it's nice.
