I have to confess- I didn't watch the video when I made my initial comment. I saw "Clannad feat. Bono" and I knew this couldn't be good. Well, now I've gone ahead and watched it and it is worse than I could have imagined. It's excruciating. It must be destroyed.

Shiny had to give in that it wasn't as bad as everyone claimed include em himself.

Really, I think MMLP2 is his most solid effort with arguably Relapse close behind. Now they don't have his best tracks or anything, but I am talking taking the album as a whole. I know I am in a tiny minority opinion here, but after a decade or so, nearly everyone agrees with me. I remember when everyone was hating on Paul's Boutique while I wore out the CD.

Decade later?

There are many other examples. Tupac being shown for the lightweight he was is gradually becoming another.

I was actually very surprised with how good the MMLP2 actually was. I was expecting another overly commercialized album like Recovery.

You bring up a good question though and I've been wondering your insight on it,

How come the non-Black rappers like Eminem and Big Pun are better at the technical aspects of hip-hop such as rhyme patterns, alliteration, and multisyllabic rhymes? Very few Black rappers can pull this off, the only one I can think of off the bat is Kool G Rap, and he hasn't really been active in a long time.

Dude you need to expand your listening. But I think there could be a reason for the phenomenon, post em. Em doesn't does fit the head mold that gets off on "technical" aspect.

BTW:

Kool Mo Dee
Nas
Pharoahe Monch (when em was first coming up a lot of people said he was biting off PM, the shout out to him is giving back a little)

Really this list could go on for a long time pre and post em. And I think people too narrowly define "technical" aspects.

Orthornom will be happy to know that I think Bezerk is a pretty freaking great track. I was ambivalent about it before.

I just love the old school feel.

But ya crazy if its better than his first 3 albums. Yeah Relapse is probably his best at the very least underrated. Beautiful is maybe my favorite ballad of his, love the sample.

We'll see how it pans out in the future. You listen to those albums there are some quickly to be forwarded through stuff, IIRC. I have found that yet with MMLP2.

And not a lot of concept happening on them. I wouldn't argue the lion share of his best track come from those albums, but hey, if you are me, MMLP2 is like it was written just for me. The degree to which it draws from the entire history of rap is crazy. It's not just a remark on his own career but rap in general.

But hey we are practically Irish twins who grew up around black people, lived in trailers, and had mothers only Eminem could properly lionize, so I might be a bit biased.

I think I am more of a slim shady fan than I am Eminem in the end. As much as I admire what he did on Relapse, I found he has lacked the rich humor of his prior albums. When I say humorous like busting my gut laughing (His ICP diss is GOAT in disses)

I have to agree with this notion that he no longer shocks. Maybe that's what is missing. When he bursted on the scene with SSLP, you couldn't escape the controversy. Fast forward to a decade and people shrug their shoulders. It is absolutely fascinating to me how we have changed in such a short amount of time.

Now we get more shocked at prepubscemt boyish girls that twerk on stage with giraffes.

Will there ever be another musician that stirs as much controversy, acclaim and criticism all rolled up into one? I hope so.
