Can someone explain to me what dubstep is supposed to be...?  because all I've really heard is random (and generally uninteresting) sound effects, sometimes applied to popular music written by other people...

Not a huge fan of Dimebag's solos, but the one in Floods is probably my favorite of his.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpBtL27TPrQ&feature=player_embedded

This song is from the album "TheSwing of Delight" which includes an amazing array of musicians accompanying Carlos Santana: Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Ron Carter. Terrific stuff!

Been listening to this Freedy Johnston album Can you Fly, it's one of my favorite singer/songwiter albums.

Also Ornette Coleman too, just got to find a cheaper version of Of Human Feelings that isn't 50 dollars a pop. It's worth that much, but I like to bargin bin shop.

Oh and M.I.A.'s Kala still is so so good.

Abbey Lincoln: "Brother Where Are You?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7eYsaJq108&feature=related

One of the most beautiful and original voices God ever made. I got to see Abbey Lincoln in concert at the Atlanta Jazz Festival around 1988 or 1989. That same weekend I also got to see Miles Davis, Tony Williams, and Sun Ra. I had the privilege of meeting Abbey Lincoln, and she was incredibly gracious and kind. As beautiful in her later years as she was in her youth. She used her wonderful voice to shed light, love, and truth in this world. One of the underappreciated greats of the Jazz world. No one like her!

I love that song.  The Newsboys are really pretty decent.  Or, rather, they were pretty decent; almost everything I've heard of theirs since Michael Tait (formerly of D.C. Talk and Tait) became their lead singer sucks more or less (mostly more).

I like the combination of reggae-ish and more heavier elements. I wonder whether there are more that kind of songs/bands outside of Soufly and Eyesburn?

I used to like them quite a bit back when I was into CCM. I've since become pretty lukewarm, but I maintain that "Lost the Plot" is a legitimately good song.
