I have been on here for nearly 3 years and I still have no idea what and who is the chain of command on oc.net.

Would someone please give a detailed list of the chain of command of this website?

Please look at Reply #18 for an updated list of moderators & other administrative personnel. - Fr. George, Global Mod

Each moderated forum has it's own "Section Moderator" . As it stands at the moment:
Convert Issues Moderator: Thomas
Faith Issues Moderator: PeterTheAleut
Liturgy Moderator: arimethea
Oriental Orthodox Discussion Moderator: Salpy
Orthodox-Catholic Discussion Moderator: dantxny
Orthodox Family Forum Moderator: TBA
Free-For-All Moderator: Αριστοκλής

Then there are two "Global Moderators" myself and cleveland.
The Global moderators oversee the Section Moderators as well as moderate the forums which have no moderators (such as "Other", "News" etc). The private boards are unmoderated (unless something is posted in them which is illegal etc).

Finally, the "Administrators" oversee everything and make the final decisions. They are FrChris, Robert and Anastasios.

There are also other people who assist with content development and are involved in moderator/admin discussions.

In practice, the moderators and admins work together and discuss issues. Also, if a section moderator sees some gross breech of forum rules in a forum which is not normally their responsibility, they are able to intervene.

Of course, as a former military serviceman (USMCR), I did get a chuckle out of your use of the phrase "chain of command" in reference to the OC.net admins and moderators.  I don't think any of our admins and mods would ever think to assert any kind of military-type command over anyone here.  We're here to serve the members of this forum, not to command.

Amongst the administrators, Robert oversees technical issues, Fr Chris is in charge of the forum, and I am in charge of content development (anyone else want to volunteer to write? hehe).

Certainly not. We follow standard Roman Imperial norms here.

Perhaps we should go with Webbasileus considering the newly defined structure? Wink

Oh, I've always fancied myself after the (at least early) Imperial Senate, useless and powerless, but a continual nuisance, annoyance, and royal pain in the you-know-where; at times relying on propaganda, rhetoric, and the façade of past glory to gain enough support for a certain issue, before quickly returning to petty bickering and debauchery, which are much prefered to the tiresome and boring labour required to gain something as trivial as honour amongst men. ozgeorge, thanks for the info! We have one of those Kangaroos Next 14KM on Bribie Island Road. The priests must drive past it whenever they come to the Church at Ningi (unless they take a major detour).

arimethea, how humble of you to say that some Moderators are more equal than yourself. Can you please teach me this humility?

Anastasios, thank you for the additional info.

No. Robert and I hold the additional position for legal and historical reasons of "Founders" of the site and are responsible for providing backup financing if donations should ever fail to cover all costs (which thankfully, has not happened thanks to our generous posters).

We had a third founder, Mor Ephrem, who retired and that is when Robert and I created the distinction between Founder and Administrator for legal purposes, conducted a reorganization of the internal working of the site, and elected Fr Chris to the Administratorship to run the forum. This does not, however, imply that Fr Chris is lesser than Robert or myself; his vote on all issues always counts as much as mine and Robert's.

In Christ,

Anastasios

How is it that these positions are chosen....i've always wondered...?

Each Administrator is in charge of his domain (forum, content, tech) and can select his "Level II Assistants" which are on the forum called Moderators (on the content end I call them Contributors).  He does this in consort with his "Level I" assistants which on the forum are Global Moderators (on the content end I call them Editor).

When it comes time to create a new Level I assistant (Global Moderator or Editor) the Administratorial trio votes together on the candidate to ensure a common mind of the site's direction.

Administrators can be elected by the votes of the other two as well. Since there would only be two voting, obviously this ensures that it will always be by consensus.

If someone retires, there is a mechanism in place to immediately select a new candidate. If someone should need to be replaced (which is rare) there are mechanisms in place for that as well.
