I'm finally studying modalism... I never thought the Byzantine tones might be just the diatonic scale with different tonics, lol! At least the modern rendering, of course... I see there are more complex traditional scales. At least that's what I understood.

Yes, but it's highly unlikely to listen to such long hymns at parishes. Only at monasteries during special occasions.

Well, the Matinal Doxastikon of the Lauds from the Transfiguration of the Lord (August 6), in Mode Plagal of 4th after Balasios the priest (second half of 17th c.) is 55' long:

These kind of looong, and very extended hymns are called μαθήματα mathḗmata (plural), μάθημα máthēma (singular) which is the equivalent of étude(s) in the western tradition, and were compiled into a book called μαθηματάριον mathēmatárion in mid-19th c.
