Fr. Panteleimon Kartsonas was born in 1936 in Patras, Greece, and became an Athonite monk at a very young age. He wanted to become an iconographer, but he had a very beautiful voice and he became one of the most recognised chanters on Athos (eventually he became a very talented iconographer too). He had a very sweet voice but had serious health issues as well and reposed in the Lord at the age of 56 in 1992. He spent his entire monastic life at the Skete of Hagia Anna.
The Pasa Pnoi after James the Protopsaltis (+1800) in Mode 1st, chanted by fr. Panteleimon Kartsonas (live recording, Holy Monastery of Philotheou, Mount Athos, 1984):
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the highest. It is fitting to sing a hymn to Thee, O God.
Verses from the Great Doxology after the Metropolitan of Madytus, Kosmas (+1901) in Mode Pl. of 4th soft chromatic chanted by fr. Panteleimon Kartsonas:
Glory to Thee who shows forth light, glory to God in the highest, peace on earth and good will among men.
Lord King, Heavenly God, Father Almighty, O Lord only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit.
Receive our prayer, O Thou who sittest at the right hand of the Father, and have mercy on us.
Every day will I bless Thee, and I will praise Thy name forever and unto the ages of ages.
Blessed are Thou O Lord, God of our fathers; and praised and glorified is Thy name unto the ages. Amen.
Blessed art Thou, O Lord, teach me Thy statutes.
O Lord, Thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation. I said: Lord, have mercy on me, heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thee.
O Lord, to Thee have I come for refuge, teach me to do Thy will, for Thou art my God.
Continue Thy mercy unto those who know Thee.
Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.
Holy God,
Holy Mighty,
Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.
Verses from the Resurrectional Evlogitaria from the Great & Holy Friday Matins, Mode Pl. of 1st chanted by fr. Panteleimon Kartsonas:
-Blessed art Thou O Lord teach me Thy statutes.
The company of angels was amazed, beholding Thee, 0 Savior, numbered among the dead, who hast destroyed the power of death, and raised up Adam with Thy self, setting all men free from Hades.
-Blessed art Thou O Lord teach me Thy statutes.
The women bearing sweet smelling ointment, hastened early in the morning to Thy tomb lamenting, but the angel arose before them and said: "The time for lamentation has ceased weep not. But tell the apostles of the resurrection".
-Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
We worship the Father together with His Son and the Holy Spirit, the Holy Trinity one in essence, and we cry with the seraphim: "Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, O Lord".
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Glory to Thee, O God.
Τhe Matinal Doxastikon from the Dormition of the Theotokos in Mode Pl. of 2nd after Themistocles Georgiades (+1944) chanted by fr. Panteleimon Kartsonas:
At thy deathless Dormition, O Theotokos, Mother of Life, clouds caught the apostles up into the air: though dispersed throughout the world, they were brought together to form a single choir before thy most pure body. And burying thee with reverence, they sang aloud the words of Gabriel: 'Rejoice, thou who art full of grace, O Virgin Mother who knewest not wedlock, the Lord is with thee. Entreat Him who is thy Son and our God to save our souls
