Where I'm from, we like a big 'ol glass of ice tea (sweetened of course  ;)) 'Course lemonade will do as well.

As far as beer? Well, my favorite (thus far) is Smithwick's Irish Ale from Guinness. I also like Guinness Extra Stout, New Castle brown, and Paulaner's Hefe Weizen. MMmmmmm! Sam Adams is the only domestic beer worth talking about. Which reminds me of a joke.

An Irishman visiting New York on business accompanies two Americans for lunch. At the bar, one American orders a Coors. The other American orders a Michelob. The Irishman orders a diet Coke. One of the Americans says to the Irishman, "Hey, it's Ok if you want a drink." To which the Irishman replies, "Well since you laddies aren't drinkin', neither will I."  :-*

Since hard alcohol is a sin, I don't touch it........kidding  :D. My drink of choice is the Southern Cocktail: Jack n Coke or any derivation thereof (of late it's been Elijah Craig and diet Pepsi), and I don't see that changing after the fast.

I love the local microbrews, so let me list a few of them.
  • Widmer Brothers (Portland, OR) Hefeweizen
  • Deschutes (Bend, OR) Black Butte Porter
  • He-brew Messiah Bold (Okay, this isn't local to Oregon, but I received this as a Pascha gift from my godfather, and I really liked it for more than just its good Jewish schtick.)

You Orthodox are a bunch of alcoholics. You are worse than the Episcopalians (whiskeypalians). I will be drinking some high quality H2O this summer because I am ultra spiritual.

A good ole Southern iced tea (unfortunately I have to make it myself--no one around here seems to know that that a good tea needs molasses, not stupid table sugar).

Once the fast is over, though, I'll be taking up the Clan McGregor whiskey again. It's a quite decent whiskey for the price (teacher's salary--can't afford anything better).

Ebor, - I do like iced coffee!

I am not a great fan of beers, but if I were to choose from brands of ice-cold beer on a hot summer day, I'd pick Sam Adams Boston Lager or a Pilsner Urquel (original Czech name "Prazdroi"). Also, of course, wonderful Ukrainian beers, unfortunately not known very well in the West - "Obolon'," "Rohan'," "Chernihivs'ke Dark."

Of wines, any dry ice-cold white (Pinot Griglio is OK).

Homemade spritzers of La Croix bubbly water with a dash of cranberry juice. Very refreshing!

I also enjoy a glass of Italian Red Wine (chianti or valpolicello) with dinner.

Russians also have a wonderful non-alcoholic summer beverage called "kvas." It is made of bread, it has a rich dark brown color, it is served ice-cold, and it tastes divine! (A disclaimer: I am a Ukrainian - which is different from Russian, - and I am NOT a brown-noser regarding things Russian, but this one, uhhhhhhh.... :) :) :)

Isn't it true that during the fasting seasons the monks don't count beer as wine?  In that case, beer is permitted everyday during the Apostles' Fast.  ;D

Sweet tea with lots of limes is my beverage of choice year round.  Probably upwards of 2 quarts per day so I had to go to decaf.  And to make it worse (or better) I've had to make my good southern sweet tea with Splenda.

No one's mentioned ice cold Limoncello.  Homemade is the best and nothing is better on a really hot day.  Better still when consumed on a summer evening, sitting on a patio, with cicadas buzzing and nighthawks and swallows circiling.  A very good way to unwind.
On the spiritual path somewhere between the Simpsons and St. Theophan the Recluse, but I still can't see the Springfield city limits sign yet.

What?  No wine drinkers around here?

In the late evening as the sun goes down, I like to pull out a Riesling, either an Auslese or Spatlese.  Makes the day end on a bright note.

Scamandrius, I am a wine drinker... and I share your high appreciation of good German white wines at sunset on a hot summer day. When it's not a fast time, my wife and I always have some wine in the evening. Now, during the Apostle's fast, we do it on weekends (Sat. and Sunday evenings). BTW, we never learned to drink these ubiquitous American "sodas" - to us, they are so yucky, all of them... :) Seriously, they are the worst health hazard, even the so-called "diet" ones (pH so acidic that they can corrupt metal nails, let alone your stomach).

Excellent taste!  :)  How do you take it?

I learned to like it from my mother, but it's still not as common as other drinks. Sometimes you might get an odd look when asking for it.

Black. I make it myself. Here in Mississippi, restaurants usually do not serve it. It's strange. They all know how to make iced tea, but not iced coffee.

I had a Nantucket Nectar lemonade yesterday. It was so refreshing and so natural-tasting, with those juicy bits of lemon. I think I might have one tomorrow, when the thermometer is going to go well over 90.

My favorite summertime non-alc beverage has to be iced tea---preferably with lemon, raspberry, or other flavor (I only like hot tea "straight"). Of course, I love Arnold Palmers.

My favorite summertime alc beverage has to be cider.

Favorite beers: American: Sam Adams, Harpoon, and various microbrews (my latest find: Arrogant Bastard Ale, San Diego, CA)

My favorite beers from outside the US include Newcastle (#1 among mass-produced national brands), Samuel Smith, Guinness, Belhaven, Fuller's. It goes without saying that many of the best beers I've ever had came from local breweries and pubs.

My favorite kind of beer overall is a cask ale.

Fwiw, my wife likes wine, though she only drinks maybe a bottle a year.

Regarding Diet Pepsi, I can't stand the stuff, it tastes like water with a little bit of sugar added to me. I'll quit cold turkey eventually (for about the 12th time).
