Cymbals in Coptic liturgy
« on: May 11, 2003, 03:45:21 PM »
Dear Coptic Friends,

At what time during the Divine Liturgy are the cymbals and triangle to be rung?  I have been to many Coptic liturgies but I didn't follow closely enough to remember which hymns have cymbal playing.

Brother Anastasios,

Peace and grace.

The cymbals and triangles are used during the Verses of the Cymbals, the Doxologies, most Communion hymns, the Great Doxology, the opening Kyrie Eleisons, and the Psalm of the Season. During the Festal Days (any Feast Day as well as during the Holy 50 Days), the cymbals are also used to accompany the festal Kyrie Eleisons said throughout the Liturgy.

I want to learn how to play these instruments but never got a chance to since I'm not a deacon.

Is there any special way to play the cymbals?

Better a late answer than none, I guess.   :)

I saw these tutorial videos on how to play the Coptic cymbals and triangle, and I thought they were something that could be posted here:

This website in general  is quite useful but still lacking many of the Coptic hymns, It's a good start anyways.

Wow!  I had never heard of deacontube.com before.  It seems like the kind of thing every church could use.
