Dear OCnet Community,
The upgrade went according to plan, for the most part. The delay was simply that I was trying an innovating technique to fix the past gobblydygook characters that appear from time to time in old posts. It didn't work this time but I have an idea of how to fix them in the future. I didn't want to delay the implementation of the forum on the new server though so I decided to bring it back up live now.
Please post all bugs you find in this thread.
Anastasios

I can neither see nor upload avatars. I'm running this site from Safari in Mac OS X. I couldn't upload an avatar before the site went down either.

We will be considering each modification individually and will add features based on purpose intentionally this time around, rather than just add stuff because it is cool. Useability and enduring usefulness will be the guiding principles. That being said, anyone can post requests here.

Thank you to the admin team for all the work you did to get this forum back up. I do need to mention, though, that the list order of the main discussion forums is different from what we're used to (e.g., Orthodox-Catholic Discussion on top of the list of Moderated Forums with Convert Issues toward the bottom). The Spell Check button is also missing in the post editor.

I'm not sure if this happens every time, but it seems pretty consistent so far, so I thought I'd raise it. I don't seem to have any problem accessing threads by clicking on the title link, but if the thread has mutiple pages and I click one of those, I always get a page unavailable error. (I'm using IE 7 just in case that's relevant).
This only happens in the list of unread posts since last visit, though. Once I'm in the thread the page links work fine and they also seem to work alright within the appropriate forum pages.

Site is slowing down, and it seems that every time I go to a certain forum or link, a white screen shows up first, and then I have to go again until I finally get there. Also, how's that search feature going?

Also, how's that search feature going? 1) White screen: this happens at high traffic times. I've been monitoring it and it happens the most between 12 and 2 EST. There is probably nothing that can be done to fix this, it is the price of using a very reasonably-priced server. Just hit reload when this happens. Sorry for the inconvenience. I can attest though that it is still better than when we were with the server we had until Oct 2006. 2) Search feature must be recompiled.

I try to go here via the link in the emails I'm getting, and Firefox keeps asking me what I want to use to open a .php file (this website is a .php address). I then have to go to my blog, then scroll down to THAT link, THEN I get in.
Thoughts?

That sounds like a file association issue on your end. I don't have this issue. Try saving a php file on your desktop, then right click and select properties and 'open with firefox' Anastasios

I was trying to post a new topic. When I hit "post" it said that I'd already made that post. But there was nothing there. This happened a couple of times. Then I got a white page with an error message that I unfortunately didn't copy. *THEN* the thread was put on twice. If a mod would please delete one of them, I would appreciate it. Am I doing something that is disagreeable to the new set up?

Country Flags: Represent! Why? When people don't put their correct flags anyway? (the same could be said of the old age field, when certain people would put things like 155 years old) But seriously, another issue I've been having is, when I'm in the Show Unread Posts part, and I click to mark all threads as read, it won't always get rid of all the threads, but will leave one that I've already read, or have no interest in reading.

Ah, but the country we choose for our flag says something about us Ah? And with your "St. Helena" flag is it saying that You're in exile? Extremely isolated? Have met your Waterloo? Are a "Saint"? Don't have an air strip? (I visit the St. Helena website every once and a while, so I read their latest news. ) Ebor

Or have a Napoleon complex, identifying perhaps a bit too closely with the French general....

If you get the blank white page, please hit reload. We are aware of the evil blank white page--it is actually something we have always lived with, just in a different form. On the old server, the page would just lag if there was high traffic and we would all give up after awhile. Now, the server just cuts us off during overly high traffic. How nice of it The issue is we pay a certain rate per month, and to go up to better service would cost five times more. I am sure we would get the donations, but I am not sure I want to commit us to that at this point if the high page errors are only occasional. I do realize that if we keep growing this will be inevitable though, moving to a more expensive setup. We will monitor this, but I noticed the most between 12-2 pm EST and 8-10 EST. What other times have you noticed heavy blank white page activity (i.e. it keeps happening to you over and over again). Reload should queue you right into the page during most periods. If you post and it goes white, just hit reload and when you get the "postdata" warning hit yes. We will do a study of this and see the cost vs benefit analysis. Sorry for the inconvenience. Anastasios

It's not my fault there isn't a Texas flag available. (hint hint)
Or a Montana flag.. that's what I need... unless there's one for the banner of Gondor. Ebor

Why do you keep putting thumbs down all the time lol. We took the flags away again--we are still in testing!

Because it makes no sense to complain and use a thumbs up! LOL!

You know, there are quite a few of us on here...might be a worthy endeavor once testing's done...I've got a sample if y'all'd like to use it...

And I know that there are at least 2 forum members who live in Montana as well as me the ex-pat. State flags! or maybe the state quarters? Montana has a nice one with Charlie Russell's bison skull and mountains and prairie. Ebor

I had a couple of quirks when posting just now. After I hit "post" I got the message that I had already made the post (and it was there). Then I hit post and it said that "another post has been made" but it was mine. I know I hit "post" only once each time.

I've had trouble: when I get the popup to view my personal messages, I click on the link to view them, and I instead go to the main forum page.

When will the flags be returning? When they update their code for their module to match the current version of our code.

You don't say! Connection time out issues have been driving me crazy tonight. I had to step away and do something else for a few minutes just to let things cool down a bit. ARRRGH!!!
