And I hate their football team, but nonetheless...

Indeed, one of the best.

My top five college fight songs:

1. "Yea Alabama"
2. "Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech"
3. "Notre Dame Victory March"
4. "The Victors" (Michigan)
5. "Fight On" (USC)

One of the many reasons I love college football.

Selam
There's a Jesuit high school in my home town that uses the Notre Dame Victory March as their fight song. Whodathunkit, being a Catholic school and all? Even their helmets look the same.

Have you seen the movie "Everybody's All American"? One of my favorite sports movies. It's about an LSU football player.

Selam

No I have not, I didn't know it was made into a movie, thanks for letting me know though!  Smiley

I did read the novel, but the player was at the University of North Carolina in the novel.

A wonderful movie.

A lot of high schools have adopted this as their fight song. It is a great one.

BTW, I like your Oregon fight song too. Nice.

Then there's my old high school. Same fight song as the Wisconsin Badgers. I can remember playing that song in the pep band after every TD our team scored, and we scored a lot of them when I was in high school. Oregon AA football state runners-up in 1986 and champions in 1987.

My CRIMSON TIDE ROLLED over the Hogs today 38-14! 197 yards rushing and 200 yards passing. Can you say "balance"? Marquis Maze also had one of the most electrifying punt returns I've ever seen- 83 yards of pure beauty. Should be on Sports Center's Top 10 plays tonight.

Prior to today's game, I thought we were overrated. But we looked like a top 5 team today for sure. Perhaps Arkansas is not as good as they were advertised, but the TIDE was dominant from start to finish. We go to the Swamp next week, and the Gators have the athletes to compete with us. So, we'll be tested. But I feel a lot better about BAMA after watching us this afternoon.

I predicted we'd lose 3 games this year. After today, I think we may be able to go the rest of the year with perhaps only one or two losses. Of course, that is largely dependent upon whether or not we can stay healthy.

GO DUCKS!
Looks as if my Ducks just put the hurt on Arizona, 56-31. LaMichael James was back to his old form, rushing for a school record 288 yards and 2 TDs on 23 carries--he even ran a punt back 51 yards before getting stopped short of the goal. The Ducks as a team ran for 415 yards and 6 TDs on 47 carries, which they needed to offset Nick Foles's almost 400 yards and 3 TDs passing for the Wildcats. Both teams did an amazing job holding onto the football, with neither team turning the ball over even once.

On the scoreboard, the Ducks jumped out to a 35-3 lead with 2:45 to go in the first half but allowed the Cats to score three consecutive TDs to finish the first half and open the second and make the score 35-24 with little less than 6 minutes to go in the 3rd. The Ducks put the Wildcats away, however, by outscoring 'Zona 21-7 over the final 20+ minutes of game time to roll to the big win. All of the Ducks' first seven TD drives took less than three minutes to complete--not surprising since the Ducks have the Pac-12's best offense and the Wildcats the Pac-12's worst defense.

Next up: The Ducks get next week off before a home game on October 6 against the California Golden Bears.

Alas, you never know which Cal team will show up.  Today in Seattle, in a game defined by its big plays, the Huskies had more and better ones than the Bears did.

Meanwhile, in Fort Worth, TCU played according to form--slow start, fast finished--and routed Portland State.  We still don't know what that means when the next Mountain West game comes up, but the Frogs have a chance to run the table going into Boisie.

That ain't saying much, since PSU is a tournament subdivision (I-AA) team.

Before the baseball season started I said:

I predict that the Pirates will only lose 90 games this year... hooray! Cool I actually like quite a few of their position players... they're not all-stars by any means (except perhaps McCutchen, and maybe Alvarez if he develops like they say he might), but many of them seem solid. Then again, considering where they have most of their money tied up, and considering their potential starting rotation... ugh, it's gonna be another long season.  Undecided

The Pirates just played their last game of the season. Their record? 72-90. BOOYA! Who da man? Who can make predictions like an old testament prophet!?  Grin Cool angel

You win a few, you lose a few...

Texas clobbered Iowa State, as expected.  We still don't know how good they are in what's left of the Big 12.

TCU did the ol' slow start & catch-up, only this time, they only managed to tie in regulation then lost easily in overtime to SMU.  Good thing that wasn't a conference game.

Cal had the week off, thank God!

I'm from Nebraska (though originally from Wisconsin).  This game pains me enough without one side being the victim of gratuitous abuse.  But yes, your analysis is more accurate.

The TIDE ROLLS over the Gators 38-10!

After tonight, I think we are definitely a top 3 team. Trent Richardson was unstoppable, proving that he still belongs in the Heisman race. I only wish we could kick the ball into the end zone on our kickoffs! But if that's my only complaint, I'm pretty content. Next up: Vandy, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and then the big one against the Cajuns in Tuscaloosa.

I had three running backs on my fantasy roster to choose from for two starting spots: Arian Foster, BenJarvis Green-Ellis, and Ryan Matthews. I decided not to start Foster because 1) he's coming off an injury and thus I expected him to not be at 100% and not get a ton of carries, and 2) he's playing against a good run defense.

That was a bad decision.  155 yards and a TD = 25 fantasy points.  Angry

Well, it looks as if the Yankees are out of the playoffs. Wouldn't it be fitting that their last hope in this decisive game would be A-Rod, and that he would end the game by striking out.

Oregon creamed Cal, but lost a key player in the game.

Meanwhile, the collegiate confrence raiding party heated up somewhat with the Big XII inviting TCU into its fold.  It remains to be seen how that is going to play out.

RB LaMichael James - dislocated right elbow; will probably miss a game or two

In this game, he also became the first Duck ever to run for over 200 yards in three straight games.

Just saw something in the local paper about an Oregon high school football game decided by a score of 88-80. Granted, it was an 8-man football game between two of the state's smallest schools. Because the defense has fewer players on the field to stop whomever has the ball, the 8-man game is known to be much wider open and higher scoring than the standard 11-man game, but even for 8-man football, 88-80 is an insane score. The QB on the winning team set a national high school single-game record with 11 TD passes. Shocked

Gloomy day here:  Texas was routed by Oklahoma, and the Okies thereby put themselves forth as the best thing going in the Big XII.  The 'Horns are now reduced to playing catch-up; see below.

Then, TCU just about doubled the score on San Diego State.  Gary Patterson must have got after them about that slow start & furious finish habit of theirs; the Frogs jumped to an early lead, which they never gave up.  They still have some way to go to prove to me that they can win the MWC in their final year there.

My Crimson Tide keeps rolling, winnning 34-0 over an outmatched but scrappy Vanderbilt team. So far, everything is shaping up for the showdown of the century against LSU on November 5 in Tuscaloosa. The winner of that game will most likely play for the National Championship. I like how we match up against the Tigers, but I'm afraid that our poor kicking game will be our achilles heel. We can't kick the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs, and we miss extra points! That could be the deciding factor in the game with the Cajuns. Hope we can get something worked out before then.

I'll hand it to you, Alabama is playing awesome right now. I'm excited for the LSU-Bama match. But, we will win. I mean, our punter played Aussie Rules Football and can score touchdowns for Pete's sake, we have swagger.

LSU has the definite edge in the kicking game. As for the swagger thing, you guys can keep it. I'll take BAMA's history of tradition and class over "swagger" any day. Remember what happened to the Cane's in '92. The TIDE humbled their swagger pretty good.  Wink

Should be a classic on Nov. 5. If we can stay healthy and shore up our kicking game, then I think we'll win. But those are big "ifs".

I just got back from Brookhaven, Mississippi where I took the family to hear Jimmy Johns speak at First United Methodist Church. He gave an inspiring, honest, and motivational speech that touched everyone there. True character is not defined by never failing, it is defined by the fact that you own up to your sins and mistakes and arise from your falls. Jimmy Johns said he now lives by the letters BPD, which stand for "Better Person Daily". He hopes to try out for the NFL in the Spring, and he currently spends his time working and doing what he can to inspire young people to make positive decisions on a daily basis. Jimmy still loves the University of Alabama, and he asks that the TIDE family keep him in our prayers.

EXTERMINATE!

« Reply #1884 on: October 16, 2011, 02:19:05 AM »

Even without LaMichael James (out recovering from a dislocated elbow suffered in last week's game) the Ducks roll to victory over the No. 18 Arizona State Sun Devils. Backup RB Kenjon Barner rushes for 164 yards on 30 carries to drive the Ducks to over 500 yards total offense again, and QB Darron Thomas completes 13 of 17 passes for another 187 yards, 2 scores, and 1 pick.

I am a bit concerned, however, at seeing that Thomas didn't finish the game. Not having watched nor listened to the game, all I have is the ESPN box score, which shows that backup QB Bryan Bennett entered the game in the 3rd quarter with the Ducks leading 28-24 and finished the game out. I understand now from the recap that Thomas left the game with a leg injury, so I'll have to wait and see how serious this is.

Overall, another good weekend for the Ducks at home, and now it's time to prepare for a trip to Boulder, CO, to play the 1-6 Buffaloes. With the Ducks ranked 2nd in the nation in average points for and the Buffaloes ranked 100th in average points against, this looks like a matchup that could allow the Ducks to rest their banged up starters a bit, but it's never safe to underestimate an opponent. We'll see what happens over the next week as to whether James and Thomas are ready to play next weekend.

GO DUCKS!

Not much good to be said about my almae matres.  As expected, USC won handily over Cal Thursday night, and OSU did the same to Texas today.  TCU had a bye, and doubtless, they were thanking their lucky stars that they had escaped the cannibalization that all their former conferences are currently undergoing or are about to undergo.

News not so good for the Beavers of Oregon State. They lost 28-38 to the big Mormon school from Provo.

For those interested in the Steel City Derby (I'm assuming that's everyone), Sheffield United blew a 2-nil first half lead to let Sheffield Wednesday the pigs steal a point from the match.   Angry
