The supposed "greatest basketball player ever" bided his time for three quarters, laying in the weeds and allowing his teammates to reduce a 25 point deficit to 10 by the beginning of the fourth. And then when it was time to take over, he faded into oblivion. Michael Jordan had some bad games, but he always went down swinging. But heck, I know the Lebron worshipers will come up with plenty of excuses. (And BTW, I gave Lebron his props last game. So don't even come at me with the "you're just a hater" foolishness.)
But let's credit the Spurs for a brilliant game. And let's also give due props to Kawhi Leonard, a star in the making. Great hustle, great defense on Lebron, and a great offensive performance. Now the question for the Spurs is whether or not he will continue to play this way night in and night out.
So far I think the story of this series is the Spurs bench outplaying the Heat's bench. When you can dominate the Heat with Duncan and Parker out of the game, then you have a lot to be confident about.
But in the end, let's face it, it's all about Lebron. The guy fades in and out. He's brilliant one game and absent the next. There are no excuses. If you want to be in Jordan's company, then you can't disappear in the 4th quarter when your team's only down by 10. But the series is still up for grabs. Lebron still has the opportunity to silence the doubters like me. The question, is will he do it?
