It's official. Marcus Mariota has announced his decision to go pro. I hope he's able to make the transition from being an option QB in college to being more of the pocket passer most NFL teams will want him to be. That difference between the style seen with so many college teams (e.g., Oregon) and the standard pro style seems to be the biggest reason why so many of the top college QB's don't succeed in the pros. (Jameis Winston's success in a pro-style offense at Florida State is therefore the biggest reason I think he will probably get drafted higher and be more successful early in his NFL career, even though Mariota was clearly the better college QB this last year.)

I agree that there may be more of a learning curve for Mariota, but I think any team that takes Winston before him is making a big, long-term mistake.
God bless!

When I first heard the announcement, I wondered if Mariota's education would suffer, but I think I heard that he already earned a degree in General Science?

He apparently redshirted his academic freshman year so that he was set to finish using his four years of football eligibility one year after his graduation. If he were to go back to college next year, it would likely be for a graduate degree.

Not a good day for Russell Wilson to have a bad game. ARGH! Out of 8 passes thrown so far, he's completed more to the other team than to his own receivers.

So much for #12 having faith in the Seahawks when the team is trailing.  Thousands of fans left before Seattle's comeback victory against the Packers.

Quote
Apparently beating traffic is more important than the chance to see your team pull out one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history.

With the Seahawks trailing the Packers in the fourth quarter, large numbers of Seattle fans decided to leave the stadium early, costing themselves the chance to see the Seahawks’ dramatic fourth-quarter comeback and overtime victory.

With seven minutes to go in the Seattle game and us all thinking for sure they couldn't win....

We started the wedding at our parish. No one found out until after that our prayers for the couple and our team availed much.

It was an extra happy party afterwards

This uniform matchup is going to be boring, with the monochrome blue of the Seahawks v the white shirt and blue pants of the patriots, too much blue for me.

That said, and I might be in the minority, but i do like the Seahawks jerseys, just wish they would, you know, go with their grey pants

Two bits:
  • Anyone hear that the Nationals signed Max Scherzer? Can you imagine how good the Nats' rotation will be next season? Scary!!!
  • Rumor has it that the Eagles will try to trade up to get Mariota. Chip Kelly recruited Marcus to play at Oregon and coached him for two years, so it only makes sense that he now wants Mariota to play for him in Philly.

Worst part is, I dont feel like the O's will be the best team in the beltways this year. Also even worse, with this year's interleague schedule, it's the same as if the Nationals were an AL team, with the Orioles and nationals playing 6 times this year.

Just learned that the FA Cup is not the trophy handed to the top team in the English Premier League.  The 3rd division "minnow" (I think) Cambridge United Football Club played Manchester United to a 0-0 draw - necessitating a replay at Manchester United's home stadium.

I don't know. A few things that concern me as a Seahawk fan:
1. Tom Brady is no better than (and certainly no worse than) Peyton Manning, whom the Seahawks humiliated last year, but the Patriots can run the ball a lot better than last year's Broncos, thus making their offense more balanced.
2. Will safety Earl Thomas (dislocated shoulder) and cornerback Richard Sherman (sprained elbow) be healthy and ready to play? The Seahawks will need them to be close to 100% to be successful at containing New England's passing game.
3. Can the Seahawks get under LaGarrett Blount's skin enough to provoke him to punch someone and get himself thrown out of the game? If they can do this, their chances may be much better. (That's an inside joke from an Oregon Ducks fan.)

I hate both teams, but I'll be rooting for the Seahawks since I don't want New England to have another ring. I suspect that the Pats will pull it out though.  :(
