Gabby Douglas Talks Christian Faith, Forgiveness And Matzo Ball Soup

Quote
Q: Everyone knows you as a gold medal Olympic gymnast, but how do you define yourself as a young woman of faith?

A: Faith plays a very big role in my life. I don't know where I would be without it today. I've always been praying for everything. And my mom always exposed me and my siblings to being a Christian and the Bible. I was watching back and looking at the Olympics and my mouth is moving -- and that's me praying.

Q: How did your faith get you through preparing for difficult gymnastic maneuvers like the uneven bars?

A: The Scriptures motivate me and I use them to help me overcome circumstances like practices and competitions. If I'm having trouble with a skill: "I can do all things in Christ that strengthens me." Or sometimes I get a little nervous: "Do not fear; always believe."

EXTERMINATE!

« Reply #4592 on: December 12, 2012, 10:01:35 PM »

Here's something fun for us college football nerds, especially for Gebre and me. Wink

A computer simulation of a 16-team NCAA FBS tournament has Alabama and Oregon duking it out in the championship game. Also somewhat surprising (or not, if you agree with me that Notre Dame is overrated), the simulation has the Fighting Irish losing in the quarterfinals.

You can read about it here:

It looks as if the Oregon Ducks will be playing for the national championship after all... in women's volleyball. They beat top-ranked Penn State in the semifinals to earn a date with the Texas Longhorns in the title match.

My eldest, who is a staunch UNC fan, opened a Christmas box, tag said, “From Dad,” faced filled with excitement and anticipation, and pulled out a Duke t-shirt!  A look of confusion started my laughing.  It was a great moment! laugh

I wish January 7 would hurry up and get here! I hope my Crimson Tide can get it done. I'm used to a knot in my stomach from week to week, but I can't get used to having a knot in my stomach for 6 weeks between games. Too much time from the SEC Championship to the NC. Too many variables thrown into the mix. And then all of this talk about Saban leaving for the pros. But I think our coach will stay put, and I think he'll keep us focused and ready for the National Championship. RTR!

Everyone in the playoffs is gonna be tough, but the Texans are probably Cincy's best bet, since they've been going downhill for the last few weeks and we've got some momentum going. Also, they have the second-worst name in the league.

And wow, the Ravens backups look like starters. Surprised ours played so well against them. Taylor must look like a hot commodity among teams seeking a quarterback now, especially considering that it's a pretty weak draft class for QBs.

Looks as if the Stanford Cardinal salvaged some dignity for the Pac-12 this postseason with their 20-14 win over the Wisconsin Badgers in the Rose Bowl. Now if my Ducks can beat Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl, the Pac-12 will actually finish this year with a .500 bowl record.

Good man.

Important things to remember though.

A: Rugby is as much of a social club as it is a sport.

B. As far as the game goes, be sure to have a mouth guard.

Rules are simple, if you have no clue what to do if you have the ball, run straight.

youll have a great time

Running (heck, even walking) isn't really a strong suit at the moment. The coach I emailed suggested I get started at changing that before things get set up. Part of the reason I want to play a sport is to change that. And the social aspect sounds pretty appealing too. I've been watching a couple matches on YouTube to get a feel for things. It's a bit confusing, but nothing I don't think I couldn't pick up with further study. It's really pretty similar to football, except the hits are less brutal and the words for things are more fun.

Im biased of course, but, Springboks matches are good to watch, and South African rugby in general. Here, I have a link of the ABSA Currie Cup final(SA domestic competition), where Western Province(my team) won the final. Here you go, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W43TaVDLoB8 , enjoy.

And they're off! Oregon's De'Anthony Thomas returns the opening kickoff 94 yards for a TD; 2-point try is good. Oregon 8, Kansas State 0.
