EXTERMINATE!

« Reply #1756 on: August 12, 2011, 09:39:40 PM »

Someone from my home team, Arvydas Sabonis, made it to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Even after blowing out his Achilles tendon while playing in his native Lithuania, he was still a force to be reckoned with in a Blazer uniform. Before his injury he was simply one of the best players in the world. If he'd chosen to play his best years with the Blazers, together with Clyde Drexler, Terry Porter, Jerome Kersey, and Buck Williams, the two-time NBA finalist Trail Blazers would likely be hailed today as the Blazer dynasty of the 90's. (And we would have done more than atone for the boneheaded move of not drafting Michael Jordan when we had the chance.)

GO BLAZERS!

From http://espn.go.com/nba/halloffame11/story/_/id/6857843/chris-mullin-enshrinement-opens-hall-fame-ceremony:

The class also included coaches Tara VanDerveer, who has led Stanford to two national championships and won more than 800 games, Tex Winter and Division II Philadelphia University coach Herb Magee, the career leader at the collegiate level with more than 900 wins. Eight-time NBA champion Tom "Satch" Sanders, big men Artis Gilmore and Arvydas Sabonis; the late Reece "Goose" Tatum of the Harlem Globetrotters and women's star Teresa Edwards, who won five Olympic medals -- four golds -- and is entering her fifth Hall of Fame, were also to be honored at Symphony Hall.

Nah, dah Who Dats been 'round longa sha.

Who Dey

Although the exact origin of the phrase is disputed, it had been made popular by 1981 in Bengals fans’ cheers for their team during their run to Super Bowl XVI. Some fans would do the chant and other fans would reply, “Nobody!” The cheer again gained national recognition in their 1988 appearance in Super Bowl XXIII. Due to the success of the Bengals team in the 2005 season, the chant is again gaining popularity. Different theories of the origin of the chant exist.

Who Dat

The chant of “Who dat? Who dat say they gonna beat dem – - ” originated in minstral shows and vaudeville acts in the late 1800s and early 1900s, then was taken up by jazz and big band folks in the 1920s and 1930s, became a familiar joke among soldiers in World War II, was used in early TV skits in the 1950s, then was adapted by Southern University and the public schools in New Orleans in the 1960s and 1970s and finally was adopted by Saints fans and the Saints in the late 1970’s.

Not a Twins/Indians/White Sox/Phillies/Dodgers fan, but hats off to Jim Thome on hitting 600. He seems like a very decent guy, and is probably, with Jr., one of 2 clean big boppers of  the steroid era.

I'm bummed about the Uggla streak ending. I hate the braves, but I'm a not too tall, stocky white guy 2B, my dislike for Joe DiMaggio is pretty intense, and it's probably the one record that would be most enthralling to see toppled, so I was pulling for him.

I'm happy for Jim, too.  I was very disappointed when he left Cleveland, and I'm not 100% sure that he didn't use roids, but until its demonstrated that he did, I'll believe that he didn't.

Manchester United 2 - West Brom 1

The champions kicked off the Barclays Premier League season with a hard-fought victory at West Brom, repeating last season's 2-1 success thanks to a strike from Wayne Rooney and an own goal by Steven Reid.

My guys looked barely ok. Lots of youngsters playing. I cant believe we lost the best defensive pair in the same game AND first game of the season...*ugh* not feeling so well....

I think it'll all work out, Jonny Evans did well in the back line and Phil Jones is becoming a beast. In one season we went from a first team that should be cashing in it's 401k to a team that has a future. I'm pretty happy about that.

Anyone hear about the Yankees game yesterday? First team ever to hit three grand slams in a major league game... Down 7-1 after three innings, the Bronx Bombers came back and outscored the A's 21-2 the rest of the game and won 22-9. So much for Oakland's bullpen. Roll Eyes

Bolt knew instantly it was his error, too. Soon after the gun went off, soon after taking a few steps out of the blocks, another gun blasted -- the knot-in-your-stomach sound for any sprinter.

A lot of people pull for their fellow conference teams against non-conference opponents unless it's their archrival. But there are four SEC teams I loathe, and I'll pull for anyone against them (with the possible exception of the disgraceful Miami Hurricanes):

1.Auburn

2. Tennessee

3. Georgia

4. LSU

Yup, my team is gearing up to play an LSU team that recently saw a couple of their players turn themselves in on felony charges for their role in a barroom brawl.

I'm sorry Oregon is going down, you actually expect some ducks to beat my school? Nuh uh buddy, the ducks are going to get hit them so hard they'll wonder who they are afterwords.  police

We'll see my friend. It should be another great game between the Tide and the Tigers.

But can you keep your players out of jail long enough to play the game?

LOL! I think LSU should change their mascot name from the Tigers to the "Caged Cajuns".

Alabama should change from the Crimso Tide, to the "Recruiting Violators".
