Not sure about the 2nd WR slot for my fantasy team this week... I have Pierre Garcon and Devery Henderson available... I don't really have confidence in either of them at this point. Thoughts?

WHAT HAPPENED, GEBRE? Cry (Hint for everyone else: No. 1 Alabama lost today.)

Good news for Fr. George, though. Ohio State is likely to take over No. 1 with their dominant performance today.

WHAT HAPPENED, GEBRE? Cry

South Carolina out-played us and out-coached us today. Sometimes you just have give credit to the opponent and regroup. My immediate assessment of the game:

1. The fake field goal was a huge coaching error.

2. McElroy holds on to the ball WAY too long. 8 sacks! I can't blame the offensive line when McElroy refuses to get rid of the ball. He's had a bad habit of doing that all year, and it seems to be getting worse.

3. South Carolina beat us at our own game. They established the run and that opened up the pass. We tried to force the passing game early, and that eliminated our ability to establish the run. It's ridiculous that our Heisman trophy winner and Trent Richardson didn't rush for 100 yards combined.

4. At the half, I thought that South Carolina would have to find a way lose the game in the second half in order for us to have a chance. The safety got us back into the game, and then we had a great opportunity when we intercepted Garcia shortly thereafter. But then we tried that lame fake field goal, and that was it.

5. Alshon Jeffery is a great reciever. He was outstanding today, and Garcia did an outstanding job of getting him the ball and allowing him the opportunity to make plays.

6. I never thought we were as a good as the pundits said. I thought we were good, and deserving of our ranking, but I never bought into the idea that we were head and shoulders above everyone else. There's too much parity in college football today, especially in the SEC.

Congrats to the Gamecocks. A great win for their coach and their program. Well deserved. Now we'll see what our character is made of. Hopefully this loss will turn out to be a blessing in the long run. I trust that Saban will use this loss as a trememdous teaching opportunity.

Win or lose, I'm still proud to be a BAMA fan.

Well, the Horned Frogs finally played a whole football game and beat the stuffing out of Wyoming.  Meanwhile, in Berkeley, the Bears had all the luck of catching UCLA on a downer after Texas; but then, you never know, from week to week, which version of either team is going to show up.  And mercifully, the Longhorns had a bye.

Good news, yes.  Bad news: more sports-talk of a weak Big 10 with OSU at #1.  Oh, well - I guess we'll have to prove them wrong in January (since they won't take Sep-Nov as evidence).

Well, the Ducks just won again, beating Washington State 43-23. Grin A couple of injuries, however, with kick return specialist Kenjon Barner getting knocked out on a kick return--defender got blocked into him, causing helmet-to-helmet contact--and QB Darron Thomas dinging up his shoulder. The Ducks showed their depth at QB, however, by not slowing down at all when backup Nate Costa ran the offense. Hopefully, Barner and Thomas aren't injured so badly that they have to miss next week's game, especially Barner. It's pretty scary to see someone lying unconscious on the field after getting his bell rung, but he regained consciousness rather quickly and was totally alert as the medics took him off the field. Maybe a concussion, which is bad enough, but it doesn't look like anything worse.

The Beavers also upset No. 9 Arizona 29-27 in Tucson. Great conference road win for Mike Riley and his squad. Grin

Dude, I would not want to be Braves second baseman Brooks Conrad right now. His three errors allowed two runs to score as they lost to the Giants 2-3 in Game 3 of their NLDS to fall behind 1 game to 2. OUCH! Sad (Booted two grounders and dropped a pop fly--he even popped out on a bunt.)

With one big exception, as I've come to find out. The Beavers' No. 1 receiver, James Rodgers, is out for the season with a badly torn ACL in his left knee. Fortunately, he may be able to petition the NCAA for an injury waiver, which would allow him to come back and finish his college career with his little brother, teammate RB Jacquizz.

Well, folks, we couldn't be sure which Texas team was going to show up in Lincoln today, but it was good enough to give the Cornhuskers an appropriate farewell to soon-to-be-downsized Big XII.  Meanhile, in Los Angeles, Cal sank back into its mediocrity aganinst a USC team that wanted to show it had something to prove, and came through on it.

And then, there was that little tussle in Fort Worth, where TCU got it together early and gave BYU an appropriate farewell to conference football and a reminder that one cannot live on one's cachet alone.

So far, the biggest victory has to go to Auburn, which now looks like the team to beat in the SEC.  And Iowa is looking good in the soon-to-be upsized Big 10.

Wisconsin Badgers 31, No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes 18 Two straight weeks the No. 1 team gets upset. Let's hope UCLA isn't able to make it a turkey next Thursday when they come to Eugene to play the No. 1 Oregon Ducks.

What an awful performance by the Buckeyes.  Wisconsin deserved it today - gave the Bucks a punch in the mouth every time they needed it - literally from the first play of the game (opening kickoff TD) to the last meaningful one (INT with a minute to go).  Exposed our weak special teams (which are usually superb under Tress), and Pryor's inconsistent passing (at least in the first half).  The furry ones had over 100 yards rushing in the 1st half - 95%+ of that coming up the middle.

My Crimson Tide is putting on a soporific performance against a weak Ole Miss team. Auburn defeated Arkansas 65-43. Both teams might as well move to the PAC 10. Although Auburn benefitted tremendously from a horrific call, I still think they are very good. Cameron Newton is the real deal. But we'll see how they stack up against a serious defense next week against LSU. As for the TIDE, I don't see us going undefeated the rest of the way. I'm afraid we'll lose at least one more game, either to Miss State, LSU, or Auburn. We have some crucial injuries (Julio Jones and Marcel Dareus most notably.) If we can get healthy we might be OK, but the SEC West is turning out to be much more formidable than anticipated. OK, second half started... ROLL TIDE!!!

CONFIRMED! The Ducks are now No. 1 in the AP Poll for the first time in school history. Now let's hope they don't experience something like the last two times they were ranked as high as No. 2:
1. 2001-02 - Joey Harrington's senior year; Ducks snubbed from the BCS national championship game in favor of a Nebraska team that clearly did not belong there.
2. 2007 - Heisman hopeful Dennis Dixon tears ACL with three weeks left in the season; Ducks lose last three, including one shutout loss, before finally recovering to win their bowl game.

Congrats to your Ducks Peter! Maybe Oregon and the Aubbies will meet in the National Championship. If so, I predict the Ducks will win 120-117. Wink

No reason for any congratulations yet. No. 1 in the middle of the season is nice, but we know that the only thing that really matters is being No. 1 at the end of the season. We still have six, maybe seven games to play.

The first BCS standings are out. If we were to play the BCS national championship game tomorrow, it would be Oklahoma and Oregon. However, there's the fear that the LSU-Auburn winner could jump into the title game regardless of what the Sooners and Ducks do.

I really miss Keith Jackson calling the games...

Last year SC kept it close for the 1st half...

This game, ND and UCLA are considered Bowl type games out here...

I really miss Keith Jackson calling the games...

Me too! He will always be THE voice of college football.

Anybody who lived in Texas back in the days when college football was carried largely on radio will remember Kern Tipps, the prince of SWC football broadcasters.  There was a lot in Keith Jackson that reminds me of him.

Also looks like the Ducks will have a shot at taking over No. 1 in the BCS standings, since Oklahoma finished their fall to Mizzou just a couple minutes ago.

I'm betting that the top 2 in tomorrow's BCS standings will be Oregon and Auburn.

To take things in the order of their occurrence:  Texas lost rather resoundlingly to lowly Iowa State, which means that the Longhorns' chances for a major bowl appearance are getting mighty slim.

Then, improbable Cal came out and gave the ASU Sun Devils a resounding thrashing.  Never know from week to week which Cal team will show up; this week, the Bad News Bears stayed home.

And lastly, TCU won convincingly over Air Force to stay among the ranks of the unbeaten and continue toward their showdown with Utah.

On another note, the Giants disposed of the Phillies, and for the first time in several years, we'll have a World Series entirely west of the Mississippi.

It wasn't that long ago we had a World Series entirely within the state of California. In fact, that was the last time the Giants made the World Series (2002 vs. the Anaheim, now LA, Angels).

Every week, Idaho's representatives in Congress will be one step closer to ordering hearings on the BCS when the 112th Congress opens if Boise St. remains undefeated and is not No. 2.

The TIDE Rolled tonight over arch-rival Tennessee. We played a lackluster first half, but returned to form in the second. I was very pleased not only to beat the Hillbillies, but also to see BAMA find its dominance once again. It gives me encouragement for the rest of the season. We may still have a say in how it all turns out.

LSUand Auburn played out just as expected, with the Aubbies edging out the Cajuns 24-17. Cameron Newton seems to be a lock for the Heisman at this point. It pains me to say it, but I think he is deserving. An unbelievable talent. There seems to be no way to stop him. LSU's great defense held the score down, but ultimately had no answer for Newton.

The TIDE has two weeks to prepare for LSU in Baton Rouge. After that it's Miss State and Auburn. Lot's of football left, but this year's Iron Bowl could be the most important Iron Bowl in decades.

For tonight though, I'm gonna enjoy another great win over UT. I love not having to hear "Rocky Top" for 4 straight hours! Grin

ROLL TIDE!!!

(Julio Jones was the player of the game. 12 catches for 222 yards, and all with a broken hand! I love Julio. He blocks as hard as hard as he runs routes, and always says "Yes sir" and "Yes ma'am" when interviewed. Julio is the anti-T.O.! Wink)

Dear SolEX01,

Those Idaho congressmen may well be joined by some colleagues from north Texas if this season's great Consolation Bowl turns out to be another rematch between Boisie State and TCU.

Please learn how to spell Boise. It's BOISE, not BOISIE.

One half of the major Oregon schools is done for the day. The Beavers just blew out the California Golden Bears in Corvallis 35-7. Now it's time for the No. 1 Ducks to do even worse to USC down in LA.
