+ Irini nem ehmot,

Hello all,

This thread is directed at all the native Greek speakers out there.  I've been searching for the letters of St. Antony in Greek online, and have not been successful.  Simply put, I just want one phrase translated: 'He who knows himself knows God'.  I really like that quote, and would like to have it in the original Greek.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Please pray for me.

I'm not a native Greek speaker, Cephas, but I do know ancient Greek.  I do not know this particular quote, but if you let me I'll take a shot.

Sorry, I don't have Greek characters on my work computer.

hos men seauton gignosken, hon de Theon.

I certainly invite any and all corrections.  Composition is so much more difficult than merely reading it! Grin

After trying to do Greek (which pales to my Latin  Grin), I remembered Augustine had a similar dictum where he remarked, "May I know you so that I may know myself" which, in Latin, is noverim me, noverim te.  This is from his Confessions. We all need a little Latin now and again, right?

+ Irini nem ehmot,

Scamandrius,

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it.  Now, if I could get it in Greek characters that would be awesome.  Sorry for being such a bother.

Please pray for me.

+ Irini nem ehmot,

Hey folks,

Here is my attempt at writing out what scamandrius has posted: Ηος μενσε αυτον γιγνωσχεν, όν δε Θεον

Is that remotely correct?  Thanks.

Please pray for me.

Do you know where that particular quote is?

Sayings of the Desert Fathers?  Of St. Athanasios' Life of Anthony?

+ Irini nem ehmot,

This quote (well more of a phrase) comes from the third (of seven) of St. Anthony's letters.  You can read his letters here.

Please pray for me.
