Here in Australia we have been in the grips of a drought, the driest in recorded history some say. There have been massive bushfires in many states, lives lost, homes destroyed. The past three days we have had a major rainfall in the southern and eastern states. Some towns have had over half their yearly rainfall in one day (Hawker 149mm)(that's in Sth Australia), and Alice Springs had 28mm in 10 minutes. (25mm = 1 inch). We had about 40mm the past two days. A good long soak. In Victoria the heavy rains have extinguished many of the fires, allowing hundreds of volunteer fire fighters the chance to go home after being on the frontlines for over a week. Dams and reservoirs are filling, creeks and rivers are running, and the ground is soaked. We still need lots more rain, but thank God for what He sent!!!
