Hi Friends,

You will notice a new feature added to the site: tags.  Tags help with site indexing, searching, and hashing.  It would be quite beneficial if you could take a few seconds during posting to add some tags to threads that are lacking.

THanks!

Got curious as to what a tag was, clicked on "Add Tag," and the Shout Box came up and won't go away.  What should I do?

Mutually exclusive events.  To get rid of the shoutbox, click on the minus sign in the upper right hand corner of the page.

I'm getting a "You are not allowed to add tags to that topic." error when I try to post some.

I'm still at a loss for what the tags actually do...

If I tag a topic what does it do?  How should I label the tags?

just helps in indexing and lookup.  Once we get enough threads tagged you can hotlink and have a "tag cloud" which will help in retrieving information relevant to your searches.

I was just looking at all the "tags" and kind of figuring that out.  But the answer was helpful.

Thanks Cap'n!!!  Wink

Am I correct in assuming you can only tag a thread you have already posted in??

I believe you can tag any thread.  Just look at the bottomn of all the posts, there should be an "add tag" link...

Could be wrong though...

Tags are already starting to be taken to the extreme. If tags are abused I will have to pull the plug on them. So please be reasonable.

Perhaps some general guidelines would be good. I know that I've probably made a couple that went over the line, such as my line about "the price of not using condoms" in the Aids thread. I'll delete it.

I'm getting the feeling a person can only create a tag in a thread he or she started.  At least that seems to be my experience so far.  Does that reflect other people's experiences?

No, they seem to work for some if you didn't start the thread (I just posted a test).

Does deleting a tag delete the tag for good, or only for the one so deleting, because I just came across some really stupid and provocative tags which are completely irrelevant to the subject of the threads to which they are attached and which I wish to have completely removed.

I can't tag either dantxny, which is probably just as well.

Well I don't see a rhyme or reason to it. I can (now) post and delete, but people with more posts, and even mods, cannot.

I just noticed a new function: the ability to add comments at the bottom of someone's profile. I've never seen something like that on a forum before. Smiley
