They honestly serve no useful purpose. I guess it's like the created nature of anything else. It is inherently good and meant to serve a purpose, but it can be misused and distorted. Tags could be a useful tool if used properly, but unfortunately, fallen humans being what they are, a system needs to be put in place to ensure they are not misused (as someone has just done to this thread).

Why not just remove the awful tag feature? Why not just remove human nature? It would be a wonderful world if it wasn't for all the people. Of course, another option would be to redeem it. Just be patient. The problem is being worked on.

Well maybe we will--but at the same time, they are pretty useful for classifying threads.

After such a dramatic exit, I would have expected a slightly more dramatic return. You really do start the most brain-numbing topics.

For all the put-downs Matthew cops, it's interesting how most of the threads he starts become the longest and most active threads on the board. At least he gets people talking.

Agreed. Hitler started a lot of controversy on his rise to power back in the 30's as well though so I dont know if thats a valid reason. Panagiotis

Comparing Chamberlain777 to Hitler? Now don't you think that's being just a little unfair to der Führer?

They honestly serve no useful purpose. They could, if they are used properly. Though certainly more restrictions are needed, either identifying who adds (and if possible deletes) the tags, or perhaps even limiting tags to being used when the thread is first posted (much like a poll is).

Why compare me to Chamberlain? I would never have advocated a peace agreement with Hitler, but I do believe that Saddam could have been dealt with much more efficiently and reasonably than this failed Iraq war.

but I do believe that Saddam could have been dealt with much more efficiently and reasonably than this failed Iraq war Well then, what is the way that you see that could have gotten Saddam to behave, which tens of thousands of professionally trained diplomats and specialists from around the world couldn't see?

A type of television ad aired during a political campaign. Definitely not what Matthew got.

When people start calling you names, it ought to be a time to pause and reflect. While it isn't nice, names often their basis in some degree of truth. I've been called far worse things than "Chamberlin" and thinking about them made me realize that most of them had some amount of truth to them - so for the ones that reflected something negative to me, I tried to modify my actions and words accordingly. If it is something I didn't find negative, I just ignored it.
So if you do not wish to be called Chamberlin777:
1) Stop being so vocal about your political views
2) Modify your political views
3) Show (in the politics forum) that you don't actually believe in the political views that you are accused of holding
4) Realize that those are you political views and say so what to those that call you Chamberlin777

What's quite amusing about all of this is that Panagiotis compared Matthew to Hitler, and I compared him to Chamberlain, yet it was the latter that caused offence. Congrats Matthew, didn't know you had it in you. Seig Heil mein freund!

When people start calling you names, it ought to be a time to pause and reflect.
It's a strawman, not reflecting any actual reality. I am not a pacafist, and neither do I believe in appeasement. That war should only be waged when absolutely necessary, with a clear plan for victory and an exit strategy, is just good sense.
