Peace out, my Orthodox homies...
« on: December 27, 2006, 10:42:12 PM »
Upon visiting the dentist today, I learned that not only do I have several cavities, I'm also in dire need of a root canal. I may be a sharp guy with some sharp ideas, but that don't amount to a hill of beans if I don't even floss properly. Having said that, I will not be posting on this forum for a long time. I don't like being told what to think anyway, unless that person speaking is God. I'm sorry to anyone I have ever offended without just cause. My email is freethought509@yahoo.com, in case you'd like to contact me. Don't forget to keep it real.

Peace out.

Rofl, that's line of the year! What in tarnation does one have to do with the other? You're a sharp guy, even if you do say so yourself? A root canal keeps you down? Someone offended you without just cause?  ;D

Matthew,
I am sorry to hear about the cavities and root canal. Dental work is never fun, always expensive and usually uncomfortable. Prayers for you...Lord have mercy.

PS. Anyone who takes what he wrote seriously must be very, very, very new to this internet thing. As a veteran of 2 or 3 "I'm never coming back!" posts, I know from personal experience.

I just like reading a thread containing the phrases "hill of beans," "keep it real" and "tarnation."  All in just eight posts.  Not bad.

Anyone want to take bets on how long 'a long time' will be?

I know this is going to sound overly optimistic but I'll put 3 days out there as a starting point. ;)

I'm inclined to say a week. He could probably find some other forums to increase his posting at (Ecafe, Monachos, etc.) before he gets bored and comes back here. I will say though that we should not misunderestimate Matthew; the last lapse in his forum posting was almost a month and a half long (from Aug. 31 to Oct. 12 of this year), so there is evidence that he could fend off forum withdrawal for longer than we are giving him credit for.

Well, that date period where he did not post also coincided with The Great OC.net Crash of '06, so to a degree his abstinence was a forced issue. He was noted to be posting on other sites during this time, however, under names not related to the moniker he uses here.

For the record, I would like M777 to come back someday. Yes, he can be annoying, but really we all can be this way. He's not harmful to others, as some posters have been, and so it will be fine for him to post again when he feels the time is right for him.

Root Canal isn't that bad.  I had one recently, very little novacaine on the first session and none the other two. Did they tell you that it usually takes three sessions for a root canal ???  OOps.  Maybe I shouldn't have said aything.  I hope it all turns out OK for you.

It turns out that I did not need a root canal, I just had a very deep cavity that, so far, wasn't infected. I miss the Oriental Orthodox forum, and would like to post on it again, provided that Eastern Orthodox members do not use it to state opinions which are contrary to Oriental Orthodoxy. The new quarter has started, I've moved into my dorm, which really is more like a slum with trash everywhere, but at least I'm out of my parents' house.
Again, I'm sorry for any time I've offended a member of this forum without just cause.

Peace.

Welcome back, Matthew :) I apologize for the joking as well. An Orthodox bishop once said, don't make it hard for people to go, and don't make it hard for people to come back.

I really no longer desire to discuss church history, Scripture, theology, etc. with someone who isn't Oriental Orthodox, or at least sympathetic to Oriental Orthodoxy. But if you could answer my question in the tech forum, that would be great! I no longer have time to waste on this forum, but sometimes, this forum is necessary to have a particular question answered. You are going to see much less of me on this forum, as I intend to not use it frivolously.

If the admins want to fix the problem permanently, they could write into the code something that shows who actually added the tag(s). Otherwise, you're just looking at a cycle of add-delete-add-delete every day.

As to morality, yes, I fully concede, according to the Christian moral code, I am not moral. Nor would I ever want to be again. Of course, Christianity is not the only philosophy or religion (or whatever you want to call your beliefs) that has a moral code, and under some moral codes I would be considered very moral. But morality is a cultural phenomenon, and I'm much more interested in the facts and truths of human existence, shaped by, but certainly not completely determined by, such things as human moral codes.

I'm sorry if it somehow hurt you that I became an apostate, perhaps even to the point that you changed your theology partially because of my deconversion.
No, you haven't offended me. I've always respected your choices have I not?
You've actually taught me. I really didn't think it was possible to lose God before, and I don't want that to happen to me.

Justin, listen, forget everything I just said (except the part about being a Christian Forum, and I still really would like to know what case/s of "plagiarism" you  keep referring to). I'm sorry I misunderstood and accused you falsly.
TAGS are a touchy subject at the moment. Nutters, disgrunts and jerks are using them as anonymous soapboxes all over the forum and are writing things which would get them banned had they had the guts to put it in a post.
TAGS have become the bane of my life, and as a moderator of an Orthodox forum- to be unable to do anything about offensive tags has me frustrated, and wondering whether I wan't my name associated with this forum.
My nerves are frayed right now. I'm truly sorry, and want to thank you for helping out.

And I apologize for the things I said, which were irresponsible for me to say. If I have issues, I should take them to PM and get them cleared up (this is especially true when I'm wrong, like in this case!).

Tom,
Let me explain something to you called "integrity"....
I've made a commitment to be a moderator on this board.
Every time some jerk tries to push the boundaries, it's my job to push them back (see reply #31 in this thread).
Orthodox Christianity may be meaningless to you, but it isn't to me. This forum is a very visible medium in which anyone who googles "Orthodoxy Christian Forum" etc will find this forum. The forum's domain name especially makes some claim about what it's about. For the most part, this forum would rate among the most congenial, intelligent, measured, fair, civilized and polte forums. But there will always be the jerks who want to ruin it, won't there? That's why there are moderators. I don't get paid, so I could quite easily do a half-assed job about it, and let posts which sully the name "Orthodox Christianity" slide in the forum I have responsibility for. But I've chosen to not do a half-assed job, and fight back at the jerks for the sake of the vast majority of posters who genuinely want to use this forum instead of just practicing at being a jerk by throwing in the occassional rude, obscene or inane one liner..
If you're living a happy life as a Christian, you're doing something wrong.

I refuse to let you wear that one. Our misunderstanding was my fault, and my fault alone. You were helping by removing an offense. You did nothing wrong, and everything right.
I hope that everyone feels comfortable enough and is honest enough as you to show me where I've made mistakes and done wrong.

Let me just break in here....

Quote
Justin, listen, forget everything I just said (except the part about being a Christian Forum, and I still really would like to know what case/s of "plagiarism" you  keep referring to). I'm sorry I misunderstood and accused you falsly.

Ozgeorge, you were completely correct to write the above. Truly, you are one of the voices of conscience here, and show just how valuable you are to this site and to me personally by your actions such as the above.

Our actions display for the world to see our relationship with others and with God. You have shown that you are committed to honesty and integrity, and through these qualities love of others and God.

I'm proud and grateful for having you working with us on this site, Ozgeorge, exactly for posts like the above.

I'm a little confused about his entire thread.  Is M777 back or not.  If so, could you please explain your current status a little bit more thoroughly.  I'm confused.  I've pieced together portions of you original post to try and solve this mystery.

Upon visiting several cavities today

I learned that  I'm in dire need of some sharp ideas

but that don't amount to a hill of beans

I will not be posting on this forum for a long time.

I don't like think anyway, God I'm sorry.

If I'm speaking, I have offended.

keep it real.

Peace out.

Homies.

I received an inaccurate dental opinion and, as a result, I freaked out accordingly.
