Portable Iconostasis
« on: December 14, 2006, 07:48:49 AM »
I need help from anyone who has ever built, bought or used a Portable Iconostasis!
With an increasing number of Orthodox Families moving here to the Blue Mountains, the time has come for us to think about establishing a Parish. We have a Monastery, but being a Monastery, our Baptisms, Marriages and Funerals all have to be done 100km away in Sydney.
At a meeting this evening, it has been decided that we will begin by requesting our Bishops to permit visiting Priests to celebrate the Liturgy for us on a monthly basis. We will be using various Community Halls and other buildings for this purpose, as we decided on a Sunday Morning Liturgy rather than a Vesperal Liturgy, and therefore, no Churches will be available.
I have been put in charge of organising a Portable Iconostasis to use for these Liturgies which can easily be deployed and demounted.

What we would like for our Portable Iconostasis is:
1) The three doors.
2) At least the four main large Icons (Christ, Theotokos, Forerunner, Patron), and
3) Complete screening of the Altar area (curtains are fine).
4) The structure needs be free-standing on the floor without any requirement to attach it to the walls.
5) The whole thing should be able to be stored when not in use in an ordinary garden shed.

If anyone has any experience with using or designing something similar, please let me know.

Thanks! That's a remarkably beautiful iconostasis, but given it's cost (US$2495.00 unfinished, without fabric screening or icons) plust the shipping charge of such a bulky item to Australia, I think it's out of the question, as we have to start saving money for the eventual permanent Church building. But I may steal some design features!

I think there are some Serbian people in Australia who make the "big" Iconostas's.  I'll find out and maybe you can call them and see if they would be willing to work on something for you.

Is that something you're interested in?  Or....?
I got nothing.
I forgot the maps

Its gona take a couple of days to figure out if i'm dilusional or not.  I'm almost positive that there is something in Australia...I'm putting the disclaimer out there though that I could be wrong.   ;)
