Nice garment James.

+1 As first Christians.
I wonder why yoyr brother, James, was so bored. I think it's interesting to see your sibiling during so strange ceremony Wink

Timon - very nice picture too. And memory eternal for fr. Jacob!

I don't have any pictures from my Chrismation, althoguh I had a camera with me. Maybe sometimes I regret that I didn't ask my friend to take a few pictures of it (mainly when I see photos posted here or on fb), but I thought I should have it "inside me", in my mind, hear and memories. The best souvenir of my receiving me into Orthodox Church I have it's the icon I was given by my priest and the candle I was keeping during the Chrismation.

You have a nice ponytail, Nephi.

I've wanted a ponytail for quite a while but I don't have the discipline to grow out my hair.

I never thought of growing my hair out as a discipline, just as a lack of money to get it cut.   Cool

I have a dumb question now that we are treating your photo like it is a Van Gogh.

Why are the kids wearing hat / head coverings? Not that you all don't look spiffy and cute. This photo brings up another quality of European "snap shots", especially from EE, they seem out of time in a way, at least to these American eyes.

Another great photo of you and your family.

My closest friend is from India and he brought me back that hat from Rajasthan, along with a turban that I had on an avatar at one time (and for that matter, several things on the shelf behind me are from his various trips back to India).  As I was growing up, I had a good friend that was a Sikh from India.  I aquired my liking for Indian clothing and headgear then.  I have often considered (briefly) retiring to India.  It is far less expensive than living here, and my friend tells me that I could live in the Punjab and not stick out too much.  Next time that he goes back, I am going to see if he can find me a complete collection of the writings of one of my favorite Christian authors, Saduh Sundar Sing.  I have a couple of his books, but there is a bound "complete collection" available in India.

As to headgear, I would like to visit the shop below . . .

Thank you for all that explanation. I used to study Indology for half a year Wink Rajasthan is one of my favourite India's region because of this rajput's stuff: palaces, turbans, camels, swords and so on. So I'm a bit jealous you have such friend who goes there from time to time and brings something for you Wink
Personally, I wouldn't like live in India, but if I had to, I would choose Kerala because of Malankara Orthodox Wink
I didn't know that there was a Sikh by the origin who had converted to Christianity and even had written something Wink

Ah, and I have to admit I also love oriental clothing, however of course I don't wear turbans Wink But saris, galabiyas, oriental jewellery and so on I put on quite often Wink

^well, he's buried among all these Russian emigres. IIRC his sister in law was Russian and that's the reason he ended buried there. The RC wouldn't have him in their cemeteries because of his communism+atheism although they tried to fabricate some pious story about a death-bed return to the fold.

^well, he's buried among all these Russian emigres. IIRC his sister in law was Russian and that's the reason he ended buried there. The RC wouldn't have him in their cemeteries because of his communism+atheism although they tried to fabricate some pious story about a death-bed return to the fold.

Fun stuff all around.

Romaios, you are one clever guy.

augustin,

Hey, thank for reminding me about Gramsci. Never read him as such, but he is so influential you can't not have read him. His influence on the work of others I have read is immense and I can't imagine thinking about the structure of capitalism without his poignant insights.
