What is written on the panels below the icons of St Mitrophan and the Mother of God?

Those are Troparion of St. Mitrophan and Theotokion .
We the laymen used to pray  and read the troparion or theotokion below the icons.

What a lovely idea!  :)
Am I posting? Or is it Schroedinger's Cat?

Thank you. This iconostasis was designed by Fr. Gabriel our priest to help us pray before the icons.

I went to seminary with Fr. Gabriel.  Small world...
Father Giryus, I met Fr. Gabriel today after liturgy. He told me about our prosphora seal he got from Fr. George his old friend when in seminary. Was it  you, Father?

Yup.

He is an awesome priest. We are lucky to have him here.

This is a picture when he blessed my daughter on her 6th birthday last Sunday.

Beautiful!!!

Impressive, Mor.  You've done wonders with your beard.

Sans beard. First time I've shaved it in about 12 years.

A new look, but the same Gebre. What made you decide to shave?

Not sure. Something I'd been contemplating for the past few weeks. Every now and then I just get the urge to make a change. It was pretty scary taking it off. Not sure if I'll get used to it. Will probably grow it back soon, although it grows very slowly. Which is what was so intimidating about shaving it. It's not like I can grow in back in a week or two.

It looks OK Gebre, but you look better with the beard.

On the plus side you look younger like that, on the minus side you lose 90 points of your Ortho-cred with so little facial hair. If you're not sure which way to go, then just remember: as with most things in life, the best course of action is to do whatever makes your spouse happy. unhappy spouse = unhappy house  :P

I have a good excuse why I keep my scruff look.  Ingrown hair (and it hurts)...never resolved with me. Only solution is to keep my beard a minimum length.

A lot of men prone to ingrown hairs have found it gives a close shave while not causing the problem. I like mine, but I've never had problems with ingrown hairs so I can't speak to that aspect.

Mina,

If your beard is like most black guys in America, I would find a good black barber shop around that isn't doing a weekend for every other cut or whatever. Some place that's been around a while.

See what they use to get close for their most difficult clients. What Porter is recommending is as bad as anything else or good, depending on how you use it.

My beard and sensitivity is about average for a black guy. I can easily use anything to shave with and used to get all sorts a burn and ingrown hairs from the piece Porter pointed out.

If you go the DIY route, let the tool do all the work regardless of safety vs electric. Ere on the side of stubble, do one pass with the grain, make sure you know what that is. Some of us with thicker follicles and more hair will find that the grain so to speak changes on a dime. Allow yourself a 10 o'clock look for a while as you get used to and your skin gets used to more frequently cutting / shaving. Twice a week, then more often.

Too many guys like myself gave up on close shaves cause of difficult beards and lack of knowledge.

FWIW.

I started shaving with a straight razor in my 20s, when I had to shave twice a day because of uniform regulations.  It ended up stopping the ingrown hairs as well, though it scared most if the guys in the barracks.  Though I don't shave anymore, I still use the strop on my knives.

With patience and practice, straight razors are the best.  Also, not using crap shaving gel or cream from a can.  I don't shave anymore, but I remember.

That I have not tried.  Something to consider.

The DIY route is a lot of work.  For me, against the grain, with the grain is different in different areas of my beard.  Stubble also hurt me as well.  I have a good length going for me so far.  Short enough to look professional, and not long enough to look ugly.

I have a good excuse why I keep my scruff look.  Ingrown hair (and it hurts)...never resolved with me. Only solution is to keep my beard a minimum length.
I started shaving with a straight razor in my 20s, when I had to shave twice a day because of uniform regulations.  It ended up stopping the ingrown hairs as well, though it scared most if the guys in the barracks.  Though I don't shave anymore, I still use the strop on my knives.

I have used straight razors.  But I have not shaved twice a day.  My hours are way too busy for me to do this.

My beard and sensitivity is about average for a black guy.

When did you become black?
God bless!

What do we expect when our evolving language has (supposedly) lost the hypothetical moods (modal and subjunctive)?

Nice photo.

Love the scarf!

A man of some depth, I should say. Thank you for the photo! It's always nice to put a face to a forum member. :)

I like it as well. It's not long however, it ends above knees.

Here's the photo my profile pic comes from. (You see, Kelly, I'm not actually staring disapprovingly at OC.net posts.)

And, because I've never shown her lovely self here before, a picture of my wife and me.

Agree. I like that scarf too.
