Holy Fire

Hi guys, I've been reading about the Miracle of The Holy Fire (Holy Light) that takes place every year in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Its amazing! I'm a Catholic (becoming more and more interested in Orthodoxy) and I had never heard of this Miracle until I came across a book about it in a shop last week. I've been reading about it on the internet since.

I was just wondering what are your views of it? Has anyone on this forum been and experienced it? I read that it only comes to the Orthodox Patriarch and when 2 RC priests tried it in the Middle Ages it failed and they were punished. Does anyone know of this? I guess a lot of people would doubt the validity of this miracle, what is the general Orthodox opinion of it?

Anyway, while I have never had the unique blessing of being there for the Holy Fire, my godparents have been there. It is....humbling and remarkable.

Finally, there was a televion doccumentary about this that was on the Discovery Channel or some such network about 10 years ago. I may be archived somewhere, if you can find it.
