Hi -- I was browsing the board and saw the Birthdays section and the thought struck me (not for the first time) that it would be nice if members' Name Days could be posted, as well. It's my understanding that many (most?) Orthodox consider that day more important than their birthday. (Is that correct?) I realize that collecting and organizing such info might be a real pain, so I'd certainly understand if the good people who run this site didn't want to take on the additional work -- but I thought I'd bring it up, anyway. Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

As I was going through all of these posts with people's name days, I began to wonder: are you folks giving your name days according to the New (Revised Julian) Calendar or the Old (Julian) Calednar?
When the forum begins to show people's name days will it show both the New and Old Calednar dates?

Cool! Ditto. I gave mine in New Calendar. I'm typical OCA NC -- which is to say, Great Lent and Pascha when God intended, but, like, everything else Gregorian. BJohnD |

Technically, are these not the same?  ...And merely differ in which 'day' they fall on in our civil calendar. Oh my, I hear Keble coming now... Why not just show both dates at the top of our pages where we show 'Today's date' now? Demetri, who celebrates his nameday (Oct 26) twice - on each calendar - a true ecumenist! |
