Title: Opinions on Catechisms?
Post by: Mungo on August 14, 2005, 05:57:18 PM
I'm an inquirer in an OCA parish, coming from a Protestant background. I'm trying to select a good, solid catechism. None of these are available in my local library system, so any opinions on which to buy would be appreciated.

A) Orthodox Christian Catechism: A Basic Instructional Guide to the Ancient Christian Faith and Orthodox Christian Catechism: Self-Directed Study Course
or
B) Living God: A Catechism for the Christian Faith - 2 Vol. Set

Also, any opinions on these prayer-related books?

Renewed Day by Day: An Orthodox Prayer Workbook

Orthodox Christian Prayerbook: A Manual of Daily Prayers of the Ancient Christian Faith

Many thanks!

I prefer Orthodox Dogmatic Theology by Father Michael Pomazanksy (this book here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0938635697/qid=1124063407/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-2673558-1913752?v=glance&s=books&n=507846)

In terms of a prayer book the one published by Holy Transfiguration Monastery is my personal favorite, but the Jordanville prayerbook is a close second place.  The former follows Greek usage and the latter the Russian usage.
