Title: How long can topics stay in "pending moderator review"

How long do topics stay in "locked pending moderator review" until they are either locked or unlocked?

Until that section's moderator decides what to do with the wayward thread.  ;)

According to clock time and calendar time the approval of threads may seem to be long delayed, but in sacred time it is always near at hand, always imminent.

A day to mods is a thousand years
Users walk around with a thousand fears
The true joy of love bring a thousand tears
In the world of desire, there's a thousand snares

Snares doesn't fit.

Without a set time limit, isn't there a potential for moderators to abuse the system to shut down threads that, while unwanted, break no rules?

E.g., "We're going to lock this thread until we can figure out what's going on." Then the thread is never unlocked.

Snares doesn't fit.

It's a slant rhyme, Tris. Take an English class. Geez.  ::) :P

Snares doesn't fit.
You can blame the RZArector for that one.
Of course, he's in your sector...

Snares doesn't fit.

It's a half rhyme or slant rhyme. See Emily Dickinson, Dylan Thomas, the entire genre of hip hop, etc.

This one's been in pending review for nearly a year. (http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php/topic,64093.msg1269362.html#msg1269362)

How long do topics stay in "locked pending moderator review" until they are either locked or unlocked?
Until the moderator reviews them, I guess.

E.g., "We're going to lock this thread until we can figure out what's going on." Then the thread is never unlocked.

It is the moderator's discretion whether he/she deems the thread worthy to unlock.  If the moderator believes that the discussion had more than fully come to an end, that the OP was addressed, and that there was nothing new to add, etc., it is their option to leave it locked.

It is not an abuse of any kind.

Anyone can revisit, and reread what was already posted.

If there is something new to add, then a new topic can be started addressing the new news or observations.

It would be nice if they posted a notice to that effect, explaining their reasoning for leaving it locked, just so it doesn't look as much like silencing.

But they're not leaving it locked. They're leaving it locked pending review. Concluding that it is better left locked would mean removing the "pending review" part.

NicholasMyra,

Do you have a particular thread in mind?

I would recommend pm'ing the moderator who locked the thread if you are interested in reopening it or wondering why it's still locked.  That's how I prefer it if I have something that stayed locked.

If a thread is locked pending moderator review, and moderator review is either never conducted or has been conducted and the thread decreed closed, then the thread should no longer say "pending moderator review." Because it is not pending moderator review.

and that's why I said you should PM the moderator who locked the thread.  Maybe he/she forgot, maybe it's still pending.

After discussion by the moderators, it is our consensus that the question in the OP has been answered, and so further discussion in this thread will likely tempt some folks into violating Forum policy of not criticizing moderation.  Questions are welcome, but criticism needs to be routed through the PM system.

The moderators do take your PMs seriously.  To think otherwise is quite the opposite of reality.  A lot goes on behind the scenes.  While some may be anxiously rehearsing their next clever come-backs to posts in a locked topic, the mods are discussing the various avenues of approach.  We are not The Borg, and many of us have busy lives outside the Forum which means our back-and-forth can take a while.  It will never be instantaneous.

You are entitled to your opinions, and you will never always agree with the "refs" in any sport, let alone the word-sport here.  But, we hope that all of you will respect the care and effort the mods all put into this Forum.  If you can't see that, then this is probably not the place for you, because you will never be happy with our decisions and actions.

Over a long enough timeline, the probability of disagreement will eventually hit 100%.  If you demand perfection of us, and will tolerate no deviance from your standards, then eventually you will be upset.  That's just how it rolls.  You can either move on, or, if you stay fixated on one decision that is problematic for you, we'll move on and you can continue to be upset... at no cost to us.  Try to share your decision to be upset, and you will make mistakes that will result in more decisions you won't like.  It becomes something of a self-fulfilling prophesy.

We get that some of you are annoyed with one particular decision.  You may be hearing a bit more from us, but all these things take time.

If a topic remains locked over a few weeks, then a reminder TO THE MODERATOR is in order.  Starting a topic about a closed topic to create 'social pressure' is counter-productive, and such posters may find themselves on the wrong end of a green-lettered response.  Passive-aggressive behavior looks bad as well.

So, if you have any further questions, you can PM me.
