Title: The Commandments of Jesus Christ
Post by: Stephen Levi on May 23, 2014, 05:23:35 PM
The purpose and point of this thread is to discuss and to learn and to teach the commandments of Jesus Christ to those who want to read and participate. I will go through the new testament and take them one by one. This is all voluntary, of your own free will, not mine. If it offends you or you are way beyond this in your life or for whatever reason this is not for you or to you liking...then do not come back on this thread and read it. I am going to post this on all the other Christian forums so if you believe posting the same gospel the commandments of Jesus Christ, right out of the bible all over the internet as spamming...then I would advice you to go take it up with the Lord. Because to me it is blessing.

We will start with this.

John, Chapter 14, 15:   If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John, Chapter 14, 21: He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

John, Chapter 15, 10: If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

If virtues can be commandments (or are sometimes synonymous), then this may help me go more presicely in the right direction...

St. John is using 'entoli': a common Greek word meaning a pronouncement from somebody in charge, such as a direction from a field general. I'm not saying it ought to be translated "orders" rather than "commandments"; I'm just revealing some of my own thought process when I consider what "commandments" does mean (a very uncommon word in English, outside of Biblespeak where it tends to mean The Ten Commandments). At any rate:

-- If we remember the Lord is a living Master, we who are his slaves (douloi, as he so often termed his followers) can expect to be taking orders from him day-to-day.

However, such orders will undoubtedly be consistent with Christ's reported teaching (and with the Fathers and tradition). Some of what is written that enters my mind are the so-called Sermon on the Mount and Sermon of the Sheep and the Goats ("works of mercy" sermon, to some).

Above all, I think of "Love one another," repeated in various forms throughout the Gospel passage your quotes come from, and of John the Theologian's letters explaining that the commandment is to love.

Warning: I am not Orthodox yet and don't have an Orthodox background.

John, Chapter 15, 10: If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

Indeed!  The sad state of Christians today is that with all the divisions, there are a huge chunk that do not keep His commandments.  For Christ promised us that the gates of Hades shall not prevail against the Church.

One wonders then, when Christ left, Christ had to have entrusted His commandments to the Apostles.  The Apostles also entrusted the commandments to bishops, presbyters, and deacons.  Christ commanded us to eat His body and drink His blood.  Christ commanded us to baptize in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Indeed Christ commanded many things, and we still fall short.  May the Lord have mercy on us all that we may return to follow His commandments, which the Apostles shared with us, and which were maintained by the ancient Church throughout the centuries, where Hades never prevailed against.

I don't think the logic quite follows. If my children don't obey what I tell them, it doesn't mean they don't love me, but I might tell them if they love me they need to do what I am instructing them to do. That is what Christ is saying.

this isn't going anywhere fast. So who out there can truly say they are keeping the first and greatest commandment? "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone! Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with your whole heart, and with your whole being, and with your whole strength." Or the second like it? "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

The ONLY way anyone, can abide in the love of Jesus Christ,
is to keep the Commandments of Jesus Christ, as Jesus Christ
kept the commandments of God, His Father.

But if this visitation is from "God" or "heaven", how can he not have this essential equipment?

Who are you to order us around?

Oh, and my visitation hasn't arrived. He must have been given the wrong directions.

Definitely. The visitation still hasn't happened. Should we send out a search party? Report it to Interpol? Inform the celestial embassies?

Those embassies are tricky.  They don't even tell you where the line begins.  I'd like to say "Wait and see", but chances are you'd just be waiting.

Umm, Stephen, repeatedly posting verses from scripture is not a discussion, it's a monologue. Get to the point of the thread, please.

You are in extreme trouble with the Lord. He said to me to tell you
that you are soon to get a visitation.

I would urge you to read Job 13:1-19.  Verse 5, especially.

He has a direct line to God.  :P ::)
This is correct.  I am in direct contact by the Holy Ghost with God at all times.
Is there someone to whom we can talk to verify that you're telling us the truth? So far it seems that the only evidence you've given us is "because I say so".
The evidence is here, you just are to carnal to see it.
What does it mean "to carnal"?  I carnal, you carnal, we shan't carnal, they are carnaling?
I am not your teacher.

then why did u come here and open all this threads?

Even if the Lord would send his angel to you, you still could not believe.
2 Corinthians 11:14 - I'll save you the trouble in case your spirit is on call waiting:

Quote
And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light
yup!

I recommend we don't reply to him again. He's obviously a troll, not a real Christian.

Definitely not American Express.  Just ask Visa.

that this here you have said to me is a sin and evil.

He also told me to ask you why you mock the Lord's anointed
with your words on this forum.

Liza - when he posted about "any time, I said ANY TIME" I just kept picturing Foghorn Leghorn.  Unfortunately these kind of threads can get very entertaining but can also cause issues.  At best you are feeding a troll who is finding this all very amusing... at worst you are feeding someone with serious mental issues who needs help.

I for one will not respond anymore despite having had a little bit of fun.  Instead I shall pray for the real person behind the avatar "Stephen Levi" that he find real peace.  May I humbly suggest we all do the same?

In Christ,
Tim

I can walk ALL and I say...ALL... my talk.  ALL THE TIME, NO MATTER WHAT...WHATSOEVER.

Not a 1 of any of you that read this ...can do this.

God hasn't got to the lessons on humility with you yet then?  :P
I told God that any time and I say ANY TIME, he wants to put you and I to the test to see which one of us is the humblest, I will come out ahead of you when it is all said and done.

Doesn't seem very humble.

How would you know?

You said so, yourself.  Read your statement above.

Are you a good judge of someone else humbleness? yes or no?

Yes.  In your case it easy to see that you are not humble, even though you claim you are.  You have fooled yourself...so, I would suggest you be careful, lest you think yourself holier than you really are.

You remind me of the Pharisees.  Read the Scriptures, and find out just how much Christ appreciated their humility and piety.

You have done nothing, but, judge everyone who dared reply to any of your posts.  You've not discussed, nor explained your point of view....you have merely judged and tried to prove to everyone you are greater than they are and that you have a direct line to God.

Well, you know what....I also saw God today.  I spoke to Him.  I heard His words, today.  I actually partook of His Body and Blood today.

I speak to God every day...and I see His responses all around me.

You are not special in that.  God speaks to us all.

How do you know whom you are speaking with?  How do you know that these people haven't been toiling to help the needy?  How do you know they haven't just returned form visiting a prisoner?  How do you know that they didn't sell all they own and give it to the poor?  How do you know that they are not pious individuals who put Christ before them 24/7?

You are the one who does not hold to Christ's Commandment.....because you do not love your neighbor as yourself....if you did, that you would stop and question your own motives, as you have questioned your neighbor's.

God told me to ask you,
why you quote me verses from the bible that you ,
yourself do not obey?

I follow this one to the extent that I am able:

"Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation... Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you." - Heb. 13:7, 17

How about you?

The doctrine that I adhere too and live by is the doctrine of Jesus Christ. I am of no denomination or any Christian organization on this earth. I am not from this world.

Oh.

Proverbs 10:12
Hatred stirreth up strifes: and charity covereth all sins.

Romans 12:10
Loving one another with the charity of brotherhood, with honour preventing one another.

John 13:34-35
A new commandment I give unto you: That you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another.
God told me to ask you,
why you quote me verses from the bible that you ,
yourself do not obey?

How do you know?

How do you know?

Because he judges others.  Pride.  That alone shows us he is not of Christ.

Christ NEVER judged people the way he has, and therefore, he is a false prophet.

God asked me to ask you, how it is that you think He speaks to you.  Why don't you answer?

You tell me how God speaks to you, and I will tell you how He speaks to me.

John, Chapter 14, 15:   If ye love me, keep my commandments.

If you do not keep the commandments of Jesus Christ,
you do not love, Jesus Christ.

True or false?

The gospel of Jesus Christ is his commandments.

When you repent you are to do what?

OBEY HIS COMMANDMENTS

The Commandments of Jesus Christ

is

the way

the life

the truth.

The commandments of Jesus Christ

is eternal life.

The Salvation of God.

Please explain to me how you can follow Jesus
and not obey His commandments?

Then please explain to me how you can have faith
and not obey the Commandments of Jesus Christ?

The works of faith is obedience to
the Commandments of Jesus Christ.

Which is the new covenant.

True or false?

probably on his private 'hotline'

Strangely enough, I thought that 'prayer, fasting and almsgiving' were the key components.
of course 'faith, hope and love' come in pretty close as well.

I just wonder, with his references to God, the Lord, the Spirit &c,
whether he has overlooked Gen 20:7 ; Dt. 5:11 and Matt.6:9
--Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain // 'same'// and Hallow├Ęd be Thy Name.       ?

Take it easy Stephen, you're on thin ice here.
