Title: The Brothers Karamazov
Post by: Matthew777 on February 27, 2005, 02:24:00 AM
Has anyone read this Russian novel? As a member of the Russian Orthodox Church, Fyodor Dostoevsky explored the problem of evil in this 900 page book.
We read two chapters of it in Philosophy of Religion for our problem of evil section.

If anyone has read this book, please explain how it affected you.
What is your opinion of this book as an Orthodox Christian?

May peace be upon thee and with thy spirit.

A better question might be: Who has NOT read it?  :)

Really? I didn't know it was that popular. My mom told me that she read it in college for a philosophy class.

I thought the problem of evil was no longer a problem in contemporary philosophical atheist-theist dialogue.

I thought the problem of evil was no longer a problem in contemporary philosophical atheist-theist dialogue.

My class surveys various religious questions from a philosophical viewpoint, reading texts from both sides of the question. We then have dialogues where you argue for either side.

We basically are going over all the most essential questions in the Western religious tradition, for the most part.

May peace be upon thee and with thy spirit.

Really?!! So did I (as a Phil major). Shocked me back on course and got me off of Martin Heidegger.

Just for you...
