Title: Discipline
Post by: NightOwl on October 04, 2012, 08:14:58 PM
How do I attain it? I am so lazy in my spiritual life it's insane. Maybe I need a couple fire and brimstone sermons or something...  :-\

Join the Marines.

Lol I thought about it once. Although it would probably be a non-combat position in the Army.

Pray. Attend services. Pray more. And offer it up to God. You don`t even have to say a word. He knows, He hears you. He is there for you.
What you (me too and so many else need to try doing) is to let Him reach to you and through you.

Or a crisis in your life,

"A Thorn in the Flesh"

"Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it may depart from me.   And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.'" 2nd Corinthians 12: 8,9

Procrastination and inconsistency are two of my greatest flaws.  Thanks for the podcast link... I'll listen to it later after kids are in bed.  (See????? There I go again! Ack!  :o ::))

A good sermon always brings me back to my senses... and the thought of hell, but usually only for a little while.
Maybe the only cure to lack of discipline is self-discipline?

Speaking of procrastination, I have a final cumulative exam of 40 chapters on Tuesday. I see myself cramming Monday night.

What kind of discipline are you specifically trying to develop?

Try fighting your vices. You will see that the bad things you do which you often did not take very seriously do actually hold a serious grip on you, and that through fighting them you will need to constantly pray and keep yourself occupied when you feel tempted. Ultimately this will help you develop spiritual discipline.
