Title: 2013
Post by: primuspilus on October 24, 2011, 12:05:45 PM
I had no idea where to put this, so if it's wrong please scoot it. thanks.

Anyways, I dont know if this has been touched on before or not, but I keep hearing about a Pan-Orthodox gathering sometime in 2012 or 2013. What would be discussed (decided)?

Would anything be done with the multitude of jurisdictions in the USA be one? If this has been talked about, I apologize. AFR is doing a bunch of interviews with various hierarchs and it's been brought up 3 or 4 times but each time the Bishops kind of deflect it (its been mentioned on OCN a few times too.

Thanks

There is a plan to have a Pan-Orthodox Council that would discuss the Orthodox in Diaspora, how to grant autocephalies and autonomies, ecumenism etc. Some bodies have already been created to find solutions for this issues.

Some Churches (like the Church of Russia) state that without at least a general consensus on disputable issues such a council shouldn't be called so I doubt it will gather in 2013 or 2012 as it is gossiped.

No one know what would be decided but I suppose that nothing serious.

So basically this thing, if it happens, is not going to be a big thing in the big picture....correct?

That it wwould result in going under Vatican / abolishing fasts/ ordination of women...

Nooo... nobody really thinks that will happen in this upcoming Council.

As far as I know...I think folks are worried about the state of Orthodoxy in the U.S.....and how we would shuffle everyone around...and which bishops would go where, etc.  THAT in itself is rather complicated....and would affect millions of Orthodox faithful in the U.S.

Furthermore, they might speak about the state of Orthodoxy in Ukraine.  Another major issue, concerning millions of Orthodox faithful.

I have not heard one words spoken concerning the Vatican.

THAT would never happen!!!

Something tells me that I doub very seriously the EP would come out wearing this:

Basically, I think that folks believing it would be the end of fasts, or Orthodoxy joining Rome, or something other stuff like that is a bit reactionary.

It would be nice if we could get more bodies to officially denounce sophianism as heresy, rather than just the Russian side.

I understand your point, but seriously? I don't think that issue would hit the floor at a Church council, but you never know...

No kidding.  I saw a guy at liturgy who clearly thought he was something special wearing an extremely low v-neck.  It literally went down to the end of his sternum.  It was disturbing and I felt violated.   :P

We have lived through the same pain: now we are brothers.
