Title: Nearly Half of U.S. Meat Tainted With Drug-Resistant Bacteria
Post by: Asteriktos on April 15, 2011, 02:13:03 PM
Nearly Half of U.S. Meat Tainted With Drug-Resistant Bacteria (http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/04/15/nearly-half-meat-tainted-drug-resistant-bacteria/)

Here’s something to think about the next time you stop by the meat counter at your local grocery store – there may be drug-resistant strains of bacteria lurking in that steak or chicken.

A study by the Translational Genomics Research Institute, found that Staphylococcus aureus – a bacteria that causes most staph infections including skin infections, pneumonia and blood poisoning – are present in meat and poultry from U.S. grocery stores at “unexpectedly high rates.”...

With the disgusting factory-farm meat system in this country, why would anybody be surprised?

Glad my parents still have a farm and we can kill our own chickens.

Puhlease, with Pascha around the corner, drug-resistant bacteria is in the back of my mind.  ::)

I'm not.

Me also. I'll take my chances come, oh, 2 AM next Sunday, when I will eat some U.S. meat quite joyfully.

Good thing there's no heat-resistant bacteria in the meat. Heat it up past 160 degrees and everything should be fine.

...not yet there isn't.

Or is there?

Thank you for ruining my anticipatory joy of the eventual post-Pascha dining experience...  :-[ That was going to be a good sandwich...

I think that those who will be enjoying numerous shots of rakija have a better shot at death than I do with my delicious, bacteria-laden leg of lamb.  :D

I'm not.  It's so disappointing, though, that because of the runoff from the factory farms we're also seeing all these cases of animal-based bacteria appearing in fruit and veggies, too.

I have 1/4 of a cow coming my way straight from the farm soon. I hope it tastes better than store bought beef. I don't really like cow very much all around. I vastly prefer buffalo and venison.

Time for the hand-wringing hysteria to end and begin irradiating our food.

End of problem (with no "glowing people").

LOL.  Adding to the info in your links: well-done tastes like shoe leather.

So we may as well begin eating the leather; there's no risk for cancer there, right? ;)

Cooking lamb well done should be illegal and punishable by death!

It is the "hygiene hypothesis" that is going kill us. People in the Western world keep their kids too clean and don't let them eat dirt and stick nasty stuff in their mouths.

The number of bacteria and varieties in a scoop of dirt are mind boggling. Many are similar to less benign strains and when exposed from early on children build an incredible immune system against those future pesky bugs. Much of that immunity is also inherited from the mother, so if she came from silly clean folks, it spirals.

No drugs needed. Stop using the anti-bac and eat dirt.

Good times.

Here’s something else to think about the next time you stop by the meat counter at your local grocery store: many stores are how offering hallal meats that have been sacrificed to an idol.

After Lent, I am giving up eating beef, chicken and lamb. Pork and seafood, however, will remain okay.

Cooking meat? Are you crazy? You know cooking meat is almost as bad for you as eating a piece of bread.

By that logic, is eating Kosher foods participating in a Jewish feast? Does falafel mix put you under the condemnation of the Canons?

Americans can buy hallal meat at Costco and Whole Foods. I won't dignify that stupidity with a response other than this:

Don't forget the Manischewitz lurking perhaps in the Chalice.

Wait, we're calling Allah an idol now, right....?

Why, yes.

John 14:6 (Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition)

6 Jesus saith to him: I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me.

The God that Orthodox Christians worship is the God who is accessible only through Jesus Christ.

Why, yes.

Could you please quote from the Fathers to the effect that the god of the Muslims is an idol, instead of presenting your own interpretation of the Scriptures? The Fathers that I have read who dealt with the expansion of Islam treated it as an aberration of Christianity, something most definitely worth fighting against, but not idolatry.

If that is not clear to you, it will never be.

I'll take this to mean that you are in fact not familiar with the writings of the Fathers on Islam. There is so much there that it is inappropriate for you to argue by yourself from Scripture.

The Fathers were perfectly aware that Islam is fanatically against images -- their places of worship are empty. Their beliefs are heresy, but not idolatry.

I agree with what everyone has said above. I have heard of people actively avoiding halal (seriously, like we don't have any other more pressing issues to worry about) meat as a political statement against Muslims who advocate shari'a (or Muslims in general), but I have NEVER heard the idol argument.

Huh. So no more kabob or kofta at my friend Nader's place down the street....?
