The Serbian Orthodox Church has blessed the opening of new church-run centers to treat those struggling with substance abuse.

From the article:
In the agreement, the Church pledged to continue implementing a programme called “Zemlja Zivih” – “land of the living”. This therapeutic programme, running since 2005, comprises seven centres, which the Church says are treating some 20 to 30 addicts at the moment.

Charlie Rose: "If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?"

Fran Lebowitz: "Everything. There is not one thing with which I am satisified."

Lord have mercy.

In the book The Mountain of Silence, an Anthonite monk now bishop in Cyprus also started a center for addicts.
Apparently, the monks were quite successful when the addicts were required to participate as fully as possible in the monastic life with manual labor and prayer.
