Please reply to this post with a suggestion of a book you would like to read as the Book Clubs's next pick.

If there is a book already mentioned and you would like it, please second it, or third it and so on.  The book suggested the most times will be the pick.  If there is a close second or third, then a poll will be posted to break the tie.

If there is no tie and an obvious book can be chosen from the suggestions, the the book will be announced on Saturday, May 7th at about 9 PM Central Standard time.

Two weeks will be given to obtain the book, then we'll get started.

Looking forward to it!

quietmorning,

When would the discussions begin (could you give an approximate date?), and how long do you think they will go on for? I ask because Wounded By Love is currently going for $35-36 on Amazon.com, and I already spent most of my book money budgeted for this month, so unless I could find a much cheaper seller, I probably wouldn't be able to get that till early June. If the dicussions are going to take quite a while, though, I guess this wouldn't be an issue as I'd just miss the beginning of the book discussions.

Uncut mountain supply has the book for $22, which still isn't real cheap but is a better price.

Thank you, that is definitely more doable, I could probably squeeze that in... just eat some more ramen noodles for lunch or something  Grin

EDIT--So I guess I'll second Wounded by Love then... it looks quite interesting Smiley

I watched amazon for a year hoping to find a used copy and one never popped up. Uncut mountain had the best price I could find anywhere. I still had to pay sales tax since they are in WA, but I would likely have had to pay sales tax via amazon too.

Expensive book, but since I no longer buy many and can always sell some I have, it is a great suggestion.

quietmorning,

We were looking to start reading in three weeks - but I think if it is an expensive book - maybe start after the first?  I know a LOT of the Orthodox books are pretty pricey.

I'd hate for you to miss any of the reading with the others.  I wouldn't want to miss anything.  Let's see what happens with the books this week, and when we get the final suggestions in and weight price and such, we'll decide when the actual reading will begin.  So this coming Saturday, we'll have a better idea.

quietmorning,

and how long do you think they will go on for?

Asteriktos, this will depend largely on how long each chapter is and how long the book itself is.  And that will depend on which book is chosen.

Check the filioque thread. I would guess about 6 weeks for each word.

Seriously, looked over the text a little online. Looks like it is nicely edited to lend itself to more easily concentrating the discussion of the text and avoid more vague and unwieldy discussions.

We have to pick the book first - let's give some others a chance to submit their book choice before we decide.

Looking forward to it (if it is picked).  That was my fear as well, vague and unwieldy discussions.  After all, this is the internets.

Here is an auction of 10 that is really inexpensive that just popped up. You can buy them individually.
http://www.cqout.com/item.asp?id=11642490

This is by far the best price I have seen on this book anywhere. It works out to be about $27 in US currency including shipping from the UK. But if you are in the UK, this is a great price. Even if this doesn't end up being the book chosen, I highly suggest that anyone that can purchase it to do so. Everywhere else sells the for $30+

I am going to second Jurassic Park, then.  It has all the deep philosophy one could want, and then adds Dinosaurs!  I've read it a couple times but would always be up for reading it again.
