I believe my priest quipped she was a "retired roman catholic nun" after leaving the party, cause I asked him what she was doing in the States (just visiting a friend).

I thought nuns only retired when they were dead.

Maybe she already is dead.

All I know is this fast can't end soon enough, I want a cheeseburger.

Well, a nun can give up her nunhood. My aunt was a nun and left the order to marry my uncle, an ex-priest (though I guess if the priesthood is indelible he's still sort of a priest?).

At least you can have a cheeseburger at some point. My stomach is so screwed up, I'd probably barf from a 1/4 cup of it.

I've heard a lot of stories just like this one among Catholics of a certain generation. It really makes you wonder...

December schedule of services at my parish has been announced; from March we have new rector (earleir he was vicar priest, personally he's my father confessor), that a few years ago got radiclised after one trip to Athos and he became strong old calendarist. And as our previous rector, who died this year January, was all his life on the new calendar, and he was suffering a lot last 3 years when we were forced to switch to the old calendar, and he was tyrign to maitain at least some days according to the new calendar, there was a great waiting.

So, st. Nicholas only according to the old calendar (but fortunately it's the parishional feast of the unique parish in Warsaw using new calendar now)
Sunday of Christmas Eve - two Liturgies as always, it's written "of the Forefathers", so I doubt that one of them will be new calendar.
Evening of the Christmas Eve - new calendar All-night vigil
1st day of Nativity - at 8AM Liturgy of st. Spirydon feast, at 10AM Nativity Liturgy (that's something totally new! I'm afraid some people may be confused)
2nd day of Nativity - new calendar Liturgy

Of course, there will be also Nativity according to the old calendar, but since it's in January, there is no schedule yet (the same for Epiphany - but I'm afraid first time there won't be the one according to the new calendar).

Edit: I have really enough (Church, family and personal problems) and I'm seriously considering to leave Poland the next year, after I will have finished my master studies from Arabic.

Does a vicar eat mutton?

No context can be provided. I'm just curious. What say you?

I think in 19th Century England, mutton was really cheap and vicars were known for often being badly paid. So, a vicar definitely used to eat mutton, at least.

Where to? I wish I had had a chance to move abroad. I guess it's never too late but things like permanent job makes it less and less motivating year after year.

Well, it has some special qualities I'd objectively miss (very nice people, true beauty, pure air, unreplaceable cookery), so if one's a positive person as most Brazilians are or just a peaceful fatalist like I am, the good parts can be enjoyed over the bad ones. But I would never choose to live here if I wasn't born here and was aware of how life here is, there's a reason why Euro-Brazilians like myself are massively third generation and beyond. When I met Mor in person there was this Greek guy joking that he should take me to Harlem for a walk, and I could just think my upper-middle class neighbourhood and the outside of my University probably have more guns and drugs.

One of the things I like in my country. Finland is super boring and super safe.

I am visiting Malta and went to a Greek church today and I noticed that there were a lot less signs of the cross and bows than I'm used back home. The situation was the same when I went to a Greek church in Rome few months back. I started to wonder if it is due to Greeks being immigrants in a Catholic country or are Greek customs generally less pompous to, say, Russian customs? Finland is not Russia but assumingly most of our customs are from Russia as we used to be part of MP.

What about applying for a fellowship for the 2018-2019 academic year?  Now is the time to do it.  Or with the World Council of Churches- the Orthodox Section in Switzerland which is under the EP on the new calendar?  I believe you have to have a working  knowledge of one of the 4 official languages: English, Russian, French & German.  Or maybe you would be qualified to teach one of their Orthodox courses?  Sorry I have forgotten the name of the EP centre of study there.  But I have read about orthodox young people from various Orthodox churches going there to either study, do research in the library or teaching.

I'll see what possibilites I have probaly in January. I know about this centre, one of my friends (that's now rector of the Polish Orthodox parish in Brussel) was studying in Switzerland in this centre. That's not so bad option, I haven't thought about it earlier, so, thanks! :) But I'm afraid I'd prefer to livein on a country of which I know the official language, at least at comunicative level (well, I still have a broad range of choice then).

It was unusual for me to meet a Brazilian chick who wasn't very kind and sweet. She gave everyone at our Thanksgiving dinner a bad attitude. And when I told her about part of my family's background she thought I was lower than dirt. It's not my fault the Brazilian side of my family deal drugs and money launder.

If RaphaCam's accounts are to be believed, your Brazilian family members are probably just normal Brazilians.  Are you sure this Brazilian woman wasn't a schemanun or something?
lol, I hadn't read this!

Most of us are clean people, but sometimes dirty stuff are near enough. My ex had dealers on her extended family, and she was a nice girl. My cousin goes to school with the son of a bicheiro (mobster). The school my uncle works in had some bully harassing a girl sexually last Thursday, the girl's mother simply showed up with a couple of hardcore criminals demanding to get the bully into a car, God knows what for. The principal was smart enough to convince the angry mother not to continue it, however.

That being said, I don't think Brazilian women tend to be uptight, but maybe they can be a bit full of themselves sometimes. Oversexualised cultures tend to generate narcisistic women. But most of them are kind, gentle and open anyway. Sometimes even to the point of seeming vulgar.

I meant no offence, by the way.  I enjoy Brazilian food and Brazilian drinks, and I would be a big fan of Brazilian women if I had a reasonable certainty that they were in fact women.  :)
How this relates to the coming Antichrist? I don't know...

I will never believe anything bad about Brazilian women.

I feel like here it's more true in a spiritual sense.
