U.S. Catholics' Faith in Clergy Is Shaken
« on: January 13, 2019, 07:50:33 PM »
" WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Amid turmoil in the Roman Catholic Church in the ongoing fallout from priest sex abuse scandals, a record-low 31% of U.S. Catholics rate the honesty and ethical standards of the clergy as "very high" or "high." This marks an 18-percentage-point drop between 2017 and 2018, when more sexual abuse allegations against priests surfaced and questions arose about the Vatican's response. "

I beg of all members of OCNet to make it their new years resolution to adopt the Golden Rule in threads and be nice to each other.  It’s the Orthodox Christian thing to do.  Be nice, and remember, in the immortal words of Patrick Swayze of blessed memory, that no one ever wins a fight.

Also, if I have ever offended you in my posts or conduct, I apologize.

Sts. Cyril, Maximus and Mark of Ephesus, pray for us!

Sad. I wonder where Orthodox Christians stand there.
"May the Lord our God remember in His kingdom all Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, which heralds the Word of Truth and fearlessly offers and distributes the Holy Oblation despite human deficiencies and persecutions moved by the powers of this world, in all time and unto the ages of ages."

How's he bugging anyone, exactly? By posting a topic with a link to a news story? You could just not read it.

As for the news story itself, it's probably correct. I'm sure a lot of Catholics have become way more cynical about their priests and bishops. Maybe that's not such a bad attitude to have -- keeps 'em on their toes!

Sad. I wonder where Orthodox Christians stand there.

I suppose if the rape and molestation rate was on par with Latinists, I guess most people wouldn't trust Orthodox clergy at a similar rate.

See? Who needs an atheist to stir the pot? The Orthodox can do it just fine on their own.   8)

Also, I'm really pleased to be continually reminded that there are no molesters within the Orthodox Church.

Indeed, so perhaps stop berating the "Latinists" for not keeping their house clean, when your own house could use a little vacuuming as well. ;)

The problems of the Roman Church are the problems of the Roman Church.

If you think just because the scandal hit the Roman Catholic Church that other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, should not be bothered, then you're wrong. As a convert to Christianity, before becoming one, Roman Catholic Church to me = All of Christianity. Roman Catholics make half of Christians worldwide, and what happens to them eventually impacts the rest of us. Even ISIS focus their propaganda and threats on the Pope because to them, he represents Christianity, and in some way he does, whether we like it or not.
