This is news?  The ancient Greek poet, Xeonphanes, once wrote:

The Ethiopians say that their gods are flat-nosed and black,
While the Thracians say that theirs have blue eyes and red hair.
Yet if cattle or horses or lions had hands and could draw,
And could sculpt like men, then the horses would draw their gods
Like horses, and cattle like cattle; and each they would shape
Bodies of gods in the likeness, each kind, of their own.

So, nothing new here.
Da quod iubes et iube quod vis.

I guess what I meant is that I didn't think people had ideas that God the Father would look like them.  Unless we're talking about the Son?  I don't think they properly differentiated here by asking from the trinitarian viewpoint.  You get what I mean?

Nevermind, they're talking about about God the Father, which we don't really have an image of, unless you accept the popular depiction, which I don't really.  So that was weird to me.

I think a lot of people subconsciously assume that the Father separate from Jesus is an old man in a robe with a beard (and the race of that body is whatever their own race happens to be). It doesn't mean that they'd argue that He has a body if you pressed them on it or that they'd hold to it as a dogmatic heresy. But it's a frequent mental picture, if you get what I mean.
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

Given the large amount of Western art depicting the undepictable Father as exactly an old white guy, it is not surprising. Sadly it eventually made its way back into Orthodox iconography (including my own parish  :P ), but that could be a whole other thread.

What do you think the Father looks like ~ if you could look ``` I can't see Him ~ The Father as a person ~ it's like ~ He's all around a distance away ~ but I can't get a look ```

It’s Hard to Be a God.

Do you think it deserves its 6.7 on IMDB? I've never seen it.

The Lord is King, He is robed in majesty.

He does not look like a chubby Puerto Rican man.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

When I was a little child, I imagined God as somehow looking like Phil Collins. I'm not kidding. No idea why, maybe it was because I was always listening to his CD and perhaps there was some illustration in some Bible that looked like him.

As a child, I imagined God being some kind of floating torso wearing a purple sweater.  I have no idea where I got that.

Was it a zipup? Because now I'm imagining God looking like a decapitated, purple sweater wearing Mr. Rodgers.

Thats because of hollywood. Years of movies & tv shows have shown God that way, so its ingrained into the psyche of us Americans.

Its the same with the blonde blue eyed nordic looking jesus.

No, something like this, minus the neck part: https://media.karousell.com/media/photos/products/2018/03/06/wilfred_free_dark_purple_sweater_1520301663_c96615e2.jpg.  I guess I saw this and ran with it in my mind: https://s3.amazonaws.com/thisistoday-webassets/siteMedia/Blog/2015/What-Is-Lent/lent_cross.jpg.

It'd be interesting to see the Slavic responses to a poll like this.
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift.
