A debate is raging within the Russian Orthodox Church over whether a priest’s blessing caused a weather satellite to crash into the Atlantic this week.

...

The popular theologian Andrei Kurayev said on Tuesday that the archbishop who blessed the satellite before its launch should be held accountable for its fate.

“It is very strange that the church seemingly offers services but is never held liable for the quality of these services,” he said in an interview with the Govorit Moskva radio station.

First they should investigate whether the satellite's crashing was a ritual murder.
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

Well that's an awfully stupid statement. The Archbishop is invoking God's blessing. Andrei Kurayev might as well be asking that God be held responsible, and so far all attempts to get God to show up at a trial have been unsuccessful.

I have now seen two baby spiders over the last several days, each perhaps 2mm long. Sure they're harmless now, but what about when they grow up? They probably know that I killed their mom.

Next time, make sure to also bless the rocket used to launch the satellite in orbit.
