In all compound exercises (deadlifts, squats, bench press, military press etc) the bar-bell travels straight up and straight down, which keeps the muscles under constant tension as there is a constant vertical pull from gravity.

Isolation exercises such as bicep curls or tricep extensions do not provide continuous tension on the muscle as the bar- or dumb-bell travels in an arc where only the middle phase of the movement generates maximum tension.

As of this morning I was down to 192 lbs...  I'm celebrated by eating a bunch of cookies! Grin The reason that particular number means something to me is that that's 50 pounds less than my heaviest weight (several years ago). I've lost about 10 lbs. over the last 6 weeks, since I've been caring somewhat again. My goal is 180, though I'm not sure what I'll do once I get there.

Eat more cookies?

5'9 150-155lbs

300lb x 3 deadlift, very excited to hit twice my bodyweight.

280 x 5 squat, again excited to hit twice bodyweight.

160lb x 10 benchpress, never my strong point.

18 consecutive strict forum chin ups.

Your next goal: bench two plates.

I went to the gym last night and the power was out when I got there. I could barely see anything, and all I heard were clanking noises and some guy yelling "Light weight baby" and "Nothin' to it but to do it!"

tl;dr I think I lifted in the dark next to Ronnie Coleman

I weighed in today at 147, so I'll say 145 since I had eaten a few hours previously. Yay, I guess. Still 35 pounds to go.

So that's... about 5-7 pounds since the last page. GJDM!  Smiley

And related to our race... I'm worse off, so you're probably well ahead now. I got down to 191 at some point, but am temporarily back up to about 200 atm. Thing will improve IN THE FUTURE!

Indeed!  A number of variables need to be taken into consideration to make that determination. Wink Wink

Much medicine is just poison used cautiously and judiciously.  (Sometimes.)

That's only true of free-weight exercises. With cable-and-pulley machines, particularly the sophisticated machines made by Nautilus, that problem is eliminated.

Generation Iron seems to be getting decent reviews. And in a strange turn, I think reviewers understand the film better than some of the bodybuilding fans. Or at least parts of it.

The Mr. Olympia contest is this weekend. Prepare yourselves. This is going to be awesome. I'll probably be watching it on bodybuilding.com, but then who can tell with this...

Also:

I think it is creepy when a guy starts admiring another guy's masculinity.

My picks for the 2013 Mr. Olympia...

...

Gonna change up my prediction from a month ago a bit...

1) Phil Heath
2) Kai Greene
3) Jay Cutler
4) Mamdouh Elssbiay
5) Dexter Jackson
6) Shawn Rhoden
7) Branch Warren
8) Dennis Wolf

I'd like to see Kai win, but from reports I've heard over the last week I'm not sure that he's going to. Putting Dex in 5th is probably wishful thinking, but I'd like to see him get at least one more top 6 finish before it's over.

Also, since Wolf was born in Russia does that make him the token Orthodox favorite?

"It's hard to appear as if you are inside the character of yourself."

I have no idea what this means.

Apparently Kai Greene said it at the press conference today, in response to a question about being filmed by a documentary crew.

LOL. So at about the 50 minute mark one of the bodybuilders is being interviewed, but he's one of two guys who don't speak English. Here's how it goes:

- The co-host tells us what the question is in English
- Then the co-host relates the same question to the translator in German
- Then the translator translates it from German to Persian for the bodybuilder
- Then the bodybuilder gives his answer in Persian
- Then the translator translates the Persian to German
- Then the co-host translates the German to English and tells us what the bodybuilder said
