no longer converting
« on: April 22, 2008, 12:01:56 AM »
I am converted!

Biggest daily life change so far for me is that I feel constantly aware of what I'm doing during the day/evening because I want to be able to rightly partake on Sunday morning.  Especially this week.

Well, I don't think our priest is hearing confessions this week.  So I assume I should try to sin as little as possible so that Saturday night I can celebrate.

Well, the idea is to not sin at all for the rest of your life. ;)  (But we all fall, which is why the Church grants us the means for getting back up.)  BTW, CONGRATULATIONS and welcome home to the Church of the Apostles. ;D

Thank you!  I'll admit I made the topic the way it was because it might get a few more views and I find it slightly amusing.
I was baptized and Chrismated on Saturday along with 23 other catechumins at my parish.  It was a big deal and there were a lot of people there!

Seeing all these conversion testimonies lately makes me feel like I am the oldest Catechumen on the planet.

Wow! Even the major Catholic cathedral in our city only had 2 adult baptisms this year. You must have a huge parish!

down at the bottom there is a picture of all of us newly illumined.  The link to the story ("read more") seems to be broken though.

last year I think there may have been as many as 28.  One of the sources of these conversions has been a small but steady stream of converts from a prominent Evangelical Christian University in the area.  I went to school there, as did about 10-12 of the converts this year and about 4-6 of the converts last year.

In your parish are converts typically all received this time of year or does it happen year round?

Thanks to everyone! Well, knotquiteawake had 23 received into their parish, while in my chrismation there 7 or 8 of us who were chrismated (5 or so came from one family), and I think there are still one or two more on their way to Orthodoxy.

Barring special circumstances our parish generally only baptizes/Chrismates on Lazarus Saturday.  So those 20-something converts are from the whole year.  Most of the time a convert will have been attending for over a year (including the Catechism time) before they are taken in to the church.
